Graded A by the Cinema Evaluation Board ang indie film na The Red Shoes. During the movie's press conference at Marciano's restaurant last Wednesday afternoon, March 3, mararamdaman kung gaano ka-excited at ka-proud ang female lead ng movie na si Nikki Gil. Ang The Red Shoes din ang unang pelikula ng singer-actress na siya ang bida.
"Una sa lahat, gusto kong magpasalamat sa lahat ng nakapanood," simula ni Nikki sa PEP (Philippine Entertainment Portal). "Unang dinig ko pa lang po na it's going to be produced by Unitel Productions, yun na. Sila ang nag-produce ng mga pelikulang Crying Ladies, Santa Santita...so, alam ko na maganda yung movie."
Dugtong pa niya, "And what I love about the movie, and basically ito yung mga nababasa ko sa isinulat ng mga nagba-blog, ano siya, kaya siyang i-digest ng regular moviegoers. But at the same time, the film is intelligent. Kasi kapag sinabi mong indie, mataas. May intellectual factor. Pero ito, it doesn't try too hard to be intellectual. But I don't know, we'll see, tingnan natin."
Dahil first starring role niya ang The Red Shoes, alam ni Nikki na may pressure on her part.
"Medyo mabigat yung responsibility kaya when something like this is successful, proud ka rin, di ba? Gusto mo rin na makita ng lahat. Pero sabi ko nga, kahit hindi ako ang kasama sa palabas na ito at ganyan ang kinalabasan niya, I would tell myself about it that, 'Hey, we have a film here that is purely Pinoy in terms of concept, in terms of execution and script and storyline, pero pang-international yung quality niya.' So, suportahan natin 'to, di ba? Para naman maka-level tayong mga Pinoy sa international moviemakers," saad ni Nikki.
KAPAMILYA/KAPUSO. May eksena sa trailer ng movie kung saan may intimate scenes sila ng kapareha niyang si Marvin Agustin. Paano siya napapayag gawin ang mga naturang eksena?
"Panoorin niyo na lang!" natatawang sabi ni Nikki. "I think it's tastefully done. This movie is all about taste anyway. Basta panoorin n'yo na lang. Hindi naman siya yung...it was just slight. The movie needed it, yun. At saka hindi naman kasi na-sacrifice yung mga prinsipyo ko for this one. You'll see it. It was done in such a way na wala namang na-violate sa limitations ko."
How was it working with Marvin?
"I was very comfortable working with Marvin," sagot ng Kapamilya star tungkol sa Kapuso actor. "Kahit na may mga delicate scenes at maraming time na uma-adlib na lang kami for material, ang sarap, ang sarap-sarap katrabaho ni Marvin because, you know, actor. 'Actor ako. Nag-iisip ako.' Inaral niya yung character niya at yun ang masarap katrabaho. Hindi yung nakikinig na lang kung ano ang sabihin ng director, di ba? Tapos dun na natatapos yun. With Marvin, he's such an intelligent actor."
Halatang nahiya naman si Nikki sa naging pahayag ni Marvin na kahit na sinong lalake raw ay maiinggit kay Billy Crawford for having Nikki as a girlfriend.
"Salamat, na-shy naman ako," nakangiti niyang sabi. "Pero in all fairness with Marvin, it was so much fun working with him and siyempre kapag may mga ganyang mahahabang taping, ang dami niyong moment na nagkukuwentuhan lang kayo.
"The set was a very fun set. At lahat kami, we went an extra mile for this movie. Hindi kami yung sige, matapos na lang 'yan, sige, maitawid na lang 'yang pelikulang 'yan. Nagdagdag talaga kami ng soul sa movie na ito."
NO WEDDING PLANS YET. Natawa naman si Nikki sa balitang nagpaplano na raw silang pakasal ni Billy dahil sinabi ng Fil-Am performer na si Nikki na ang gusto niyang pakasalan.
"Well, siguro it's only to prove na nagseseryoso na siya sa buhay," sabi ni Nikki. "I mean, he's of age, di ba? But I mean, not anytime soon. Siyempre, bata pa rin naman ako. Ngayon pa lang ako nag-uumpisa. At siyempre these days, you have to be practical. When the time comes at kami pa rin, then we'll know it."
Pero aminado naman si Nikki na napag-uusapan na nila ni Billy ang tungkol sa kasal.
"Lahat naman kasi, kahit naman maliliit na bata, basta kasalan, dinu-drawing na nila ang gown nila. May ganyan naman. But kami, yung seryoso, yeah, we talk about it. But we know it's not the right time yet," saad niya.
Hindi rin naman daw niya masasabi kung ilang taon pa bago siya lumagay sa tahimik.
"Kasi, hindi mo rin naman masabi kung paano tatakbo ang career mo. Hindi natin alam if his work will require him to go back to France. Hindi natin alam ang mga ganyang bagay. We just really have to prepare for the unexpected and hope for the best."
May one year na rin daw ang relationship nila at nakikita raw niya ang kaseryosohan ni Billy sa kanilang relationship. Kahit naman si Billy ay aminadong iba siya ngayon.
"Ako, na-convince ako na nabago siya noong nakausap ko ang nanay niya," banggit ni Nikki. "At yung nanay niya mismo ang nagsabi sa akin na nagbago, and also his friends. When his friends started telling me, Billy has changed. Nag-iba na siya, but for the better.
