PMPC announces nominees for the 26th Star Awards for Movies

Pormal nang inihayag ng pamunuan ng Philippine Movie Press Club, Inc. (PMPC) ang kanilang official nominees para sa 26th PMPC Star Awards for Movies.
After almost two months of reviewing nominated mainstream and independent films, nakahanda na ang voting members nitong entertainment writers' club na ipagkaloob ang mga karangalan para sa mga natatanging artista at manggagawa ng pelikulang Pilipino para sa taong 2009.
Top 5 nominees lamang each category ang nasa listahan, maliban sa isang technical category kung saan may nag-tie sa 5th slot.
Inaasahang magiging pukpukan ang labanan sa major acting categories na laging inaabangan ng publiko taun-taon.
Maglalaban-laban sa Best Actress category si Megastar Sharon Cuneta, ang dekalibreng aktres ng GMA-7 na si Iza Calzado, ang pambatong aktres ng ABS-CBN na si Angelica Panganiban, ang komedyanang si Eugene Domingo, at ang Star for All Seasons at Batangas governor na si Gov. Vilma Santos.
For Best Actor, mixed din ang nominees—ang isa sa pinakamahuhusay na aktor sa kanyang henerasyon na si John Lloyd Cruz, ang versatile actor na si Roderick Paulate, ang sexy actor turned serious actor-film producer na si Allen Dizon, ang actor-producer na si Sen. Ramon "Bong" Revilla Jr., at ang underrated actor-politician na si Lou Veloso.
Ang Ulirang Artista Lifetime Achievement Award ay igagawad ngayong taon sa multi-awarded beteranang aktres na si Ms. Gina Pareño. Ito ay dahil sa kanyang outstanding body of works, remarkable achievements in the film industry, credibility and endurance as a great actress, na magpahanggang ngayon ay humahataw pa rin sa larangan ng pagganap.
Sa unang pagkakataon, ipagkakaloob ng PMPC ang kanilang Ulirang Alagad ng Pelikula sa Likod ng Kamera award sa tinaguriang Komiks King, television and movie director, at National Artist na si Carlo J. Caparas. Ito ay naisipan ng PMPC upang bigyang-inspirasyon ang mga unsung heroes na mga tao sa likod ng anumang film production, kasama ang pagkilala sa kanilang mga naiambag sa industriya.
Gaganapin ang 26th PMPC Star Awards for Movies sa April 24, Sabado, 6 p.m., sa Henry Lee Irwin Theatre ng Ateneo de Manila University, Loyola Heights, Quezon City. Mapapanood ang TV coverage nito sa April 25, Linggo, 9:30-11:30 p.m., sa TV5.
May temang "Tatlong Dekada ng PMPC sa Pelikulang Pilipino," kumpirmadong hosts sa gabi ng parangal ang King of Talk na si Boy Abunda, beauty queen-actress-host Ruffa Gutierrez, at ang former Star Awardee for Movies, Actress of the Year na si Ms. Lorna Tolentino.
Ang 26th PMPC Star Awards for Movies ay produced ng Star View Productions ni Ms. Josephine Saba, katuwang ang kanyang business partners. Ito ay mula sa direksiyon ni Arlene Tolibas. As we go to press, inaayos pa ang trivia hosts at performers.
