Award-winning actor Coco Martin (extreme right) said he's not disappointed after not winning the Best Actor trophy in the Urian Awards for his performance in Kinatay. "Nanalo naman yung pelikula kong Kinatay, pati yung direktor ko, and then yung ibang staff. Yun ako hindi lang akong nanalong Best Actor, pero okay na yung ma-nominate ka lang, sobrang laki na yon," he said. (In photo: Coco is joined by Sen. Coco Martin did not expect the warm reception he would receive while campaigning for Sen. Noynoy Aquino in Baguio and La Union yesterday, May 4. But there it was: hundreds of girls screaming his name across San Fernando, La Union, while waiting for his motorcade to pass.
Many even tried to reach for Coco's hand while he was busy helping co-campaigners Kris Aquino, Dingdong Dantes, and Sen. Kiko Pangilinan pass around ballers, shirts, fans, and other paraphernalia bearing Sen. Noynoy Aquino's name.
Coco, who started making a name in indie movies, was ecstatic when he was interviewed by PEP (Philippine Entertainment Portal) after the motorcade.
"Siyempre kumbaga, at least naa-appreciate nila yung pinagtrabahuhan namin, pinaghirapan namin. Napakasarap kasi ng feeling pagka alam mo na sobrang mainit yung pagtanggap nila sa 'yo, talagang mahal ka nila," he said, beaming.
He then shared the film project he is now busy with.
"Ngayon may gingawa akong isang pelikula, siguro after the elections siya ipapalabas. It's a docu about politics. Kahit na nagso-soap ako, never akong huminto sa paggawa ng mga pelikula, ng mga indie movies."
Details, however, are still under wraps.
"Ngayon medyo confidential pa kasi hanggang di natatapos yung pelikula, hindi pa puwede ipaliwanag, e," he explained.
CAMPAIGN FOR AQUINO. Coco is also happy that his candidate is being received well.
"Nagbubunga yung pinaghihirapan, pinaninindigan, at pinaniniwalaan namin na karapat-dapat talaga na si Senador Noy talaga na maging presidente. Kaya naramdaman namin na ito, nagbubunga na ang aming pagpapagod," Coco stated.
Coco, who started helping Noynoy out since November 2009, believes his sacrifices are "meaningful."
"Ang pinaglalaban namin dito yung prinsipyo, 'saka yung paninindigan. Kumbaga, 'eto na siguro yung chance para magkaroon ng makabuluhan... ako, lalong-lalo na ako personally. Ito na yung pagkakataon ko para magkaroon ng kapakinabangan sa akin ang buong bansa," he said.
Coco had even shunned network barriers—working with fellow "Yellow Artist" Dingdong Dantes—to stand by his belief.
"Kumbaga, makikita niyo nga dito, Kapamilya man o Kapuso, nagsasama-sama, e, dahil sa paniniwala namin kay Senator Noy. 'Saka, siyempre ganun na rin kay Senator Mar [Roxas] at saka sa iba pa niyang kaalyado," said the ABS-CBN talent.
"Ako all-out, hanggang matapos ang laban, nakasuporta ako kay Senator Noy," Coco asserted.
