Na-survive ni Elmo Magalona ang kanyang first taste of doing a drama series via Pilyang Kerubin, na magtatapos na sa darating na Biyernes, August 27.
Overall ay nag-enjoy si Elmo sa kanyang unang paglabas sa isang teleserye. Noong una akala niya mahirap itong gawin, pero noong magawa na niya ito marami siyang natutunan mula sa cast ng show.
"Very new ako sa ganitong klaseng show and I thought that it would give me a hard time. Kasi nga, hindi naman ako actor talaga. But I took the risk para maiba lang ang ginagawa natin din. I enjoyed doing the show, and malaking help sina Barbie [Forteza] and Joshua [Dionisio] kasi mas experienced sila sa akin when it comes to acting on television. I got good tips from them and they were very generous enough to do that. I will miss working with them," sabi ni Elmo sa panayam sa kanya ng PEP (Philippine Entertainment Portal).
MORE CHALLENGING ROLES. Ready naman na si Elmo sa mas challenging roles kung mabibigyan siya ulit ng drama series. May pointers na raw siyang nakuha, and he doesn't mind na mag-undergo ng acting workshop para mas ma-improve pa ang acting skills niya.
"I want to learn more about acting," sabi ng anak ng yumaong si Francis Magalona. "Akala ko it's just something that actors do to entertain. But I found out that it takes a lot of hard work. It's a commitment and you have to be good at it. Kaya I'm open to more challenging roles on TV. Tama lang that I started in a light drama. You will eventually level up naman, di ba?"
Wala pang new primetime series na gagawin si Elmo after Pilyang Kerubin, pero meron naman siyang Party Pilipinas at Kaya Ng Powers. Kaya magiging busy pa rin siya.
"I still have two shows, pero once a week lang sila kaya hindi ako masyadong napapagod at napupuyat. It will be different from the three-times-a-week taping.
"Now I have more time to clean my room. Nagrereklamo na nga si Mom [Pia Magalona] 'kasi hindi na raw kuwarto yung bedroom ko. Bodega na raw siya! Kaya ngayon that I have more time, magagawa ko nang linisin ang room ko. Para raw magmukha na siyang bedroom talaga!" tawa ni Elmo.
MRS. RECTO. May gagawin ding indie film si Elmo. Ito ay ang Mrs. Recto, kunsaan bida ang Asia's Songbird na si Regine Velasquez. Nakipag-meeting na raw sila sa director na si Dante Garcia at inaalam na lang ang shooting schedule nila.
"Three to four days lang daw ang shooting," banggit ni Elmo. "Okey lang because I want naman to experience doing an indie film. Yun ang uso ngayon, di ba? Nakakatuwa kasi marami raw akong scenes with Miss Regine. This will be another good experience for me. And my mom said na the story is good. I am looking forward to work on this indie film."
DREAM ALBUM. Dream din ni Elmo ang magkaroon ng sarili niyang album. May negotiations na raw na ginagawa para sa kanyang debut album, pero hindi pa raw sigurado si Elmo kung kailan ito masisimulan.
"Hindi pa naman final ang lahat," sabi niya. "Because we need good materials to work on. Tsaka I want to be prepared talaga to do the album. Ayoko kasi yung just for the sake of having one. Gusto ko yung maipagmamalaki ko kahit kanino."
At siyempre, dedicated ang magiging first album ni Elmo sa kanyang yumaong ama na si Francis Magalona.
"Sa lahat naman ng ginagawa ko, I always dedicate it to my Pop. And not just kay Pop but to the whole family. Kasi they've been there for me when I started a career in showbiz. And they've been my best and worst critic in everything. Kaya whatever I achieve, my whole family is a big part of it parati," saad ni Elmo.
