Two entries from the Philippines will compete in the 38th edition of the International Emmy Awards, which honor excellence in TV programming outside the U.S.
Sid Lucero and the ABS-CBN teleserye Dahil May Isang Ikaw are among the 39 nominees from 15 countries that will compete in the prestigious competition.
The International Academy of Television Arts and Sciences (IATAS) selected the nominees from 15 countries: Argentina, Brazil, Denmark, Germany, Israel, Japan, Mexico, Portugal, Romania, South Africa, South Korea, Thailand, the Netherlands, the United Kingdom, and the Philippines.
The IATAS had three rounds of judging over a period of six months, with participation from over 700 judges in 50 different countries.
Sid Lucero was nominated in the Best Performace by an Actor category for his performance in Dahil May Isang Ikaw. He will compete against Bob Hoskins (The Street, United Kingdom), Sebastian Koch (Sea Wolf, Germany), and Leonardo Sbaraglia (Epitafios, Argentina).
The Filipino actor was cast in Dahil May Isang Ikaw as Alfred "Red" Ramirez, one of sons of Lorna Tolentino and John Estrada. Sid, whose real name is Timothy Mark Pimentel Eigenmann, is currently part of ABS-CBN's afternoon series Alyna.
Dahil May Isang Ikaw was nominated under the Telenovela category of the International Emmys. This Kapamilya show was directed by Jerry Lopez Sineneng and Rechie Del Carmen. The reunion project of Jericho Rosales and Kristine Hermosa also starred Lorna Tolentino, Gabby Concepcion, John Estrada, Chin Chin Gutierrez, and Karylle.
Dahil May Isang Ikaw will compete against Ciega a Citas (Argentina) and My Love (Portugal).
The winners will be announced at a black-tie ceremony on the 22nd of November 2010 in New York, hosted by former Beverly Hills 90210 star Jason Priestly.
Last year, the Philippines got three nominations in the 37th International Emmy Awards: GMA-7's Magdusa Ka and ABS-CBN's Kahit Isang Saglit for Best Telenovela, and Angel Locsin (Lobo) for Best Actress. (CLICK HERE to read related story.)
