The King's Speech nabs 12 nominations at the 2011 Oscar Awards

"True Grit" follows with 10 nominations.

After winning the Producers Guild Awards, The King's Speech is now on its way of bagging the top prize in the Oscar Awards after the announcement of the nominees tonight.

The King's Speech, which is based on the story of King George VI and his battle with speech problem, amassed a total of 12 nominations; including Best Picture and Best Director for Tom Hooper.

Three of its stars are nominated in the acting categories: Colin Firth (Best Actor), Geoffrey Rush (Best Supporting Actor), and Helena Bonham Carter (Best Supporting Actress).

Aside from The King's Speech, the other nominees for Best Picture are: 127 Hours, Black Swan, The Fighter, Inception, The Kids Are All Right, The Social Network, Toy Story 3, True Grit, and Winter's Bone.

The remake of the Western movie True Grithad the second number of nominations with 10; while The Social Networkand The Kids Are All Righthad eight nominations each.

In the Best Actor category, Colin Firthwill go up against last year's winner Jeff Bridges, who is nominated this year for True Grit; former best supporting actor winner Javier Bardem for Biutiful; and first-time nominees Jesse Eisenberg for The Social Network and James Franco for 127 Hours.

Golden Globe-winners Natalie Portman (Black Swan) and Annette Bening (The Kids Are All Right) are nominated for Best Actress, along with past winner Nicole Kidman (Rabbit Hole), former nominee Michelle Williams (Blue Valentine), and newcomer Jennifer Lawrence (Winter's Bone).

Tom Hooper's competition for Best Director includes Darren Aronofsky for Black Swan, Joel & Ethan Coen for True Grit, David Fincher for The Social Network, and David O. Russell for The Fighter.

The nominees for Best Supporting Actor, aside from Geoffrey Rush, are Christian Bale for The Fighter, John Hawkes for Winter's Bone, Jeremy Renner for The Town, and Mark Ruffalo for The Kids Are All Right.

Helena Bonham Carter will go up against The Fighter's Amy Adams and Melisa Leo, True Grit's Hailee Steinfeld, and Animal Kingdom's Jacki Weaver.
