Martin del Rosario feels lucky that he's getting good projects for 2011.
In 2010, Martin became part of the Cinema One Originals entry Dagim, which was directed by Joaquin Valdes. It was his first movie, followed by Till My Heartache Ends, which was directed by Jose Javier Reyes and featured the tandem of Kim Chiu and Gerald Anderson.
Martin played the best friend of Gerald in the Star Cinema movie shown last November.
"As best friend, laging nagbibigay ng advice about heartaches," he said of his character in that movie.
FIRST COMEDY FILM. This time, Martin plays the half-brother of Melai Cantiveros in the indie film Pureza, which also stars Jason Francisco, the other half of the Melason tandem. The film is directed by Soxie Topacio.
"First time ko talagang gumawa ng comedy film. Usually, drama talaga. Madalas ako sa MMK (Maalala Mo Kaya) and mga drama ng Channel 2," Martin said when PEP (Philippine Entertainment Portal) chatted with him during a break on the set of Pureza in Manila.
He added, "It's exciting, lalo pa at kasama ko si Melai at si Jason. Na-curious lang ako. Ever since kasi nasa PBB [Pinoy Big Brother], natatawa na lang ako sa kanila.Ang cute pala ng love team nila!"
Martin has good words for his "ate" in this movie.
"Masaya at nakakatuwa. First time ko siyang makita in person. Dati kasi sa TV lang. Natutuwa ako sa mga facial expressions niya. Parang walang effort yung magpapatawa para sa kanya. Nakakatawa lang siya talaga," he said about Melai.
Comedy is something new for Martin and he feels like a rookie actor doing it.
"Yung character ko naman dito, hindi siya nagpapatawa. Pero mahirap pa lang maging part ng comedy film kasi parang may reaction na 'nge!' kapag may mahuhulog or madadapa.
"Hindi pa ako siguro sanay. Nakakaya naman. Ginagawa ko yung best ko dito," Martin evaluates himself.
BUSY SKED FOR STUDENT-ACTOR. Martin is a freshman at the University of the Philippines in Diliman taking up Business Administration.
He entered showbiz as part of the Star Circle Batch 15 that has also produced Jessy Mendiola, who is now starring in the afternoon drama Sabel.
