Ogie Alcasid and Michael V will showcase their comedic talents anew for GMA-7’s upcoming late-night musical-talk show.
Titled Pare & Pare, this new show is scheduled to air on the Kapuso Network this May. Ogie describes their show by saying, “Late night show ito…talk show na may music. Tapos may big band kami [led by Mel Villena].”
Are they ready for criticism from people who will compare it to American late-night talk shows?
“Ganun lang talaga yun, e, [we’re] ready, but we have our own flavor…Tagalog siya at ang humor natin, iba naman sa humor nila.”
When asked to name the dream guests whom he would want to feature on the show, Ogie replied, “Actually sinabi ko na ‘yan, PNoy [President Noynoy Aquino] saka Grace Lee…hindi ko kino-confirm ha, pero yun ang talk.”
As for Michael V, he would like to invite Senator Miriam Defensor-Santiago on their show.
Do they plan to tackle showbiz intrigues in Pare & Pare? “Yung sa amin, fun lang,” Ogie assured.
His partner, Michael V, clarified: “Hindi yun ang objective namin.”
It will be recalled that Ogie actively campaigned for PNoy during the elections and the President also served as one of the groomsmen during Ogie’s wedding to Regine Velasquez.
In fact, President Noynoy recently graced the launch of OPM2Go, touted as the Philippine version of iTunes. The event was spearheaded by Ogie, who is currently the president of Organisasyon ng Pilipinong Mang-aawit (OPM).
Since Pare & Pare is expected to tackle some political topics, how would Ogie deal with this situation if the show tackles topics that might become critical of President Noynoy’s administration?
Ogie answered with a laugh: “Si [Michael V] na lang yun. The President actually is not pikon. E, ako siguro hanggang love life lang ako.
NO NOYNOYING. “Pero yung mga Noynoying [a term coined by militants to refer to President Aquino's alleged inaction on the country's pressing social issues] na ganyan, I’m not like that. First of all, hindi ako critic ng pulitiko.
"Never. Kahit sino man. Never akong nagsabi na bakit ganito yan, bakit ganun yan. The show naman….it’s more fun.
“Like for example, I remember the time, we were brainstorming, we were talking about Senator Miriam [Defensor Santiago], yung ‘Wahhh!’ I try to be funny, ano bang ibig sabihin nun?
"Ganun-ganun lang, hindi naman yung tira kasi hindi naman nakakatawa yun. Di ba, halimbawa, yung oil price hike, paano mo gagawing nakakatawa yun?”
Their show will also tackle topics that celebrities are talking about through the micro-blogging site Twitter.
“Meron kaming [segment] for example, uso ngayon yung Twitter, so babasahin namin yung mga tweets tapos sasagutin namin on air,” explained Ogie.
For many years now, Ogie and Michael V have been entertaining Filipinos with their unique brand of humor. What is the secret of their tandem's success?
“We’re genuinely fond of each other,” admitted Ogie. “Natatawa ako sa kanya, natatawa rin siya sa ‘kin. Meron siyang traits na hindi ako ganun, e.
"So, parang mag-asawa. Siya kasi perfectionist, structured lahat, ako, hindi ako ganun…gusto ko freewheeling so nababalanse. Kung parehas kaming ganun, e, di wala na.
ASIA’S SONGBIRD ON THE SHOW. To show her support, Ogie’s wife, Regine Velasquez, has agreed to guest on the new show.
Ogie describes the episode featuring Asia’s Songbird as “cute.”
He recalled the funny antics that he and Michael V did as they interviewed Regine.
“Panoorin n’yo…basta ang ginawa namin, pinakanta namin. Tapos pagkakanta niya tapos may nag-judge ng pagkanta niya.
"Parang kini-critique. E, mga ganung klase, pero mayroong hindi normal na ginagawa namin.
"Halimbawa ininterview namin, tapos sabi namin sa kanya, ‘Pwede ‘pag sinagot mo yan, kantahin mo. Pwede kapag ininterview mo ‘yan may ahas ka sa leeg.’”
Last March, Ogie and Regine allowed their son Baby Nate to take part in a campaign for a financial services company.

Will they allow their son to join showbiz in the future?
“Oh wow, I don’t know. Bata pa, e. Wala pa, we’re not thinking about it.”
Ogie revealed that part of Regine’s routine is to sing to their five-month old son.
“My wife always sings to him. Very aware na bata yun…Medyo sumusunod siya pagkumakanta si Regine.”
