John Arcilla says that his The Bourne Legacy co-star Rachel Weisz was sincere in her desire to help Filipinos living in slum areas.

It felt “surreal” for John Arcilla to finally see himself in the much-anticipated Hollywood action movie, The Bourne Legacy.

The Filipino actor was beaming when he talked about the action thriller where he shares a little screen time with Hollywood lead stars Jeremy Renner and Rachel Weisz.

“Parang surreal, e. Sobrang nakaka-excite kapag nanonood ka ng isang Hollywood film—tapos nakikita mo yung bansa mo, yung sarili mo, ibang klase,” John said at the Philippine premiere of The Bourne Legacy held at the Resorts World Manila last August 5.

He also lauded the fast-paced motorcycle chase scene that began on Ramon Magsaysay Boulevard and ended at the Navotas Fish Port.

“Sabi ko nga itong motorcycle chase na 'to, sa lahat ng international films na napanood ko, parang ngayon lang ako nakakita ng ganun ka-superb.

"Ang karaniwan kasi, car chase, pero ito, motorcycle chase na may jeep, may police patrol car. Parang natabunan niya yung buong istorya, yung sa motorcycle chase lang na yun. Exciting!”

Aside from celebrating his participation in this international project, John also takes pride to see the Philippines featured prominently in this fourth installment of the Bourne franchise.

Even if the slums of Metro Manila are prominently seen in the movie, John believes that the country's picturesque landscape will outweigh the impact that the slums may leave.

“Exciting, kasi after so long, ngayong lang ulit tayo nagkaroon ng mainstream Hollywood movie na mahaba ang exposure ng Metro Manila.

“Parang surreal talaga na, ‘Wow, andun ako sa isang Hollywood film!’ Tapos ang ganda-ganda nung Maynila…bilang isang Pinoy, ‘Ito ba talaga yung itsura ng Maynila?’

“Gusto ko rin matutunan ng mga Filipino na hindi nakakatakot makita yung mahihirap na part ng Pilipinas, yung poor areas.

“In the first place, 'pinakita rin yung magagandang places, tulad ng Palawan.

"Maganda nga ‘yan, kasi nakikita sa buong mundo yung istura ng dalawang part ng Pilipinas—at para ma-solve natin kung ayaw natin talaga ng kahirapan.”

He was himself stunned by the cinematography showing El Nido in the last part of the film.

"Yung Pilipinas, makikita ng buong mundo. Ang kagandahan nito, bumawi tayo nung ending. Parang suddenly, nakakita sila ng paradise sa gitna ng Pilipinas, wow!”

GOOD FEEDBACK FROM CO-STARS. In The Bourne Legacy, John has a minor role as the chief security guard of a laboratory. It is in this laboratory that Rachel Weisz is a chemist.

hanep nga ang papel ni arcilla dito eh. pero binaboy tayo ni gilroy. tignan mo kahit yung badush na si boy nagalit dun sa kapwa niya na si arcilla. in fairness kung wala yung scene ni arcilla walang kwenta yung pelikula eh, lalo na nung sabihin niya na...no i.d. no entry

expressive lang talaga ang foreigners sa papuri compared sa mga pinoy who are like most asian cultures na critical at mahirap i-please. kaya nga may problems sa confidence and self-esteem kasi sobrang critical. always room for improvement pero nothing wrong with embracing good and bad sides of ourselves and our country imbes na itakwil. john is a competent actor naman so he deserves praises.

It so sad to read such negativity coming from some Pinoys themselves. Exhibit some pride naman kahit papaano - an act of appreciation and recognition is enough, glorification to high heavens is another. John did good and he should be commended.

It's a good movie. Definitely a must see. Agree with Staniel, medyo awkward lang yung last part ng movie. Masyadong mahaba yung motorcycle chase scenes.. But all in all, maganda yung movie.

yun na talaga ang pilipinas. you can't mask it. kung puro nicer places lang ipakita you'd say unrealistic naman. they loved our country that's why they shot it there. As Pinoy why can't you just accept the slums and all. It is what it is.

John, I appreciate your positive outlook about the slums being shown in "Bourne Legacy;" however, I would frankly say that it was a sight to behold - in all its negativity. I'm proud to be a Filipino but seeing that part of the movie didn't make me proud at all. In addition, the movie itself is not as good as the previous ones. The first part was ok, but the end was disastrous.

I have nothing against John Arcilla. He's a good actor but he only had one scene in the whole movie and he had like five short lines. Paano siya naging brilliant???

Ang babaw naman ng grasp mo sa participation ni John in this movie. When filming, rigorous ang takes and retakes to get the best angle for a scene. John was described as brilliant because of his attitude as an actor and the manner of execution of his scene in the movie. He is brilliant in the sense that he kept up with the pace of the actual shooting in the production.

What's brilliant for me were the ones playing the policemen. They were brilliant because they did those stunts and might have gotten hurt from those takes. Not John Arcilla who just stood there for like 20 seconds. Deal with it ok?
