The fourth edition of the Cinema One Originals digital film fest features seven works that reflect Filipino culture. The campus tour is ongoing until November 27 and the awarding ceremony will be held on November 28 at the Dolphy Theater, ABS-CBN compound. All seven films will have a one-week theatrical screening
from December 3 to 10 at IndieSine, Robinsons Galleria.

Mainstream stars show their support for the independent filmmaking industry. Yul Servo (leftmost) is part of the film Dose (Twelve) while Tetchie Agbayani and Joel Torre topbill the Ilonggo film Yanggaw.
Directed by scriptwriter Senedy Que, Dose is about a gardener (played by Yul) who develops a close bond with a young boy. Directed by Richard Somes, Yanggaw is an Ilonggo word that means "infected."

The Cinema One entry Dose is about a curious young boy named Edy (played by Fritz Chavez, left) and a lonely gardener called Danny (Yul Servo). Now a Grade 5 student, Fritz has appeared in several mainstream projects already. His latest appearance was in the ABS-CBN teleserye Maligno, wherein he was cast as one of the classmates of the demonic boy Angelo.

Young men transition into adulthood in Sherad Anthony Sanchez's film Imburnal. It is set in the town of Matina Aplaya in Davao City where provincial life is given a worldly twist. The main characters of the film hang out in the crevases of Punta Dumalog to escape their impoversihed lives.

Sherad Anthony Sanchez (standing) bagged the Lino Brocka Grand Prize Award at the 10th Cinemanila International Film Festival for his film Imburnal. He tells this tale of manhood by employing a non-linear way of storytelling.

In the period melodrama Kolorete, Angeli Bayani (in photo) plays Magdalena. Director Ruello Lozendo shot this film in Biak-Na-Bato, San Miguel, Bulacan. It tells the story of Indios who prepare for a stage play to serve as despedida for the Alcalde Mayor or Gobernadorcillo who was dismissed by the town's friar. The arrival of a Hong Kong based Filipina soprano adds mystery to the mounting controversy.

Roeder Camañag portrays the role of Luciano in the Cinema One entry Kolorete. According to Direk Ruel, Kolorete "is a reflection of real life even if it's a period film because the characters have something to hide. It is a commentary on today's Philippine society but closely related to
past Philippine society. But there's satire that's why the story is
light."

Jason Abalos goes on a scenic road trip to Vigan, Ilocos Norte for the indie film MotorCycle. On this trip, he unlocks his real identity and uncovers secrets of his family. The film is directed by Jon Red while the screenplay is written by real-life rider and motoring columnist Karlo de Guzman.

UPCAT actually stands for the University of the Philippines College Admission Test. It is also the name of the Cinema One entry that is a coming-of-age light melodrama about young students who are about to take the State University entrance exam. It tells the tale of Lucas (Felix Roco, left) and Joaquin (Joseph Roble).

In UPCAT, Lucas is concerned about impressing his rich schoolmate Jane (Hiyasmin Neri). He wants to enter the State University even though his father (played by Bembol Roco) is strongly against it. Directed by Roman Olivares, this movie has the tagline "Ito ang kwento ng sukatan, pasikatan at shaded circles."

Yanggaw is a drama-mystery written and directed by Richard Somes. Tetchie Agbayani (second from left) joins Joel Torre, Ronnie Lazaro, and Erik Matti in this indie gem that uses the Ilonggo dialect.

Amor (Aleera Montalla, in photo) gets stricken with a disease that no doctor can diagnose. At the same time, the townsfolk notice that animals and people are being murdered brutally. Amor shows signs of yanggaw: the deliberate transformation of humans to act, behave, and become dangerously inhuman.
