Donning the red
and gold two-piece ensemble in the latest reincarnation of Mars Ravelo's Darna
is GMA-7's "Primetime Queen" Marian Rivera.
Portraying the
role of Darna's chief nemesis, Valentina, is Star Struck alumna Iwa Moto.
Fully aware of
her new role's significance in the Darna saga, Iwa Moto recently told GMA News:
"Kasi walang Darna kung walang Valentina. It's like my biggest, biggest,
biggest role!"
Playing Narda's love interest is Mark Anthony Fernandez. The son of the late action star Rudy "Daboy" Fernandez will take on the role Eduardo, Narda's childhood sweetheart.
Sexy actress
Ehra Madrigal assumes the role of Babaeng Lawin. Ehra's character was described
in the Darna publicity kit as: "May kakayahang utusan ang mga ibon at
nagtataglay ng nakabibinging huni."
"Excited ako kasi ngayon lang ulit ako
bumalik na naka-costume na naman ulit and every time na may gagawin ako na
naka-costume sobrang excited ako," sexy comedienne Francine Prieto told PEP
(Philippine Entertainment Portal).
Francine's villain character is curiously named as Babaeng Tuod.
Darna tells the story of Narda, an
attractive young woman who grows up in an orphanage and lives a happy, quiet
and simple life until she becomes the heiress of a powerful stone that could
give her super powers.
Celia Rodriguez—who portrayed Valentina
in the 1973 film version, Lipad, Darna,
Lipad opposite Vilma Santos—owns the distinction as the best Valentina
ever.
Playing a supporting role this time,
Celia will take on the character of Perfecta—the woman who runs the orphanage
and Narda's surrogate mother.
Marian Rivera is candidly described by
some critics as the "Sexiest Darna." But more than anything else, the pretty
Fil-Spanish actress said she's flattered simply by the fact that she's now
included in the elite list of thespians who donned the Darna costume.
Despite the new twists and turns, Darna's
latest version remains loyal to the vision of its creator, Mars Ravelo, particularly in the costume department.
Raymart Santiago
will play the character of newspaper editor Crisanto. He will personally pursue
and investigate the true identity of the enigmatic superhero.
Playing the role of a reporter is hunky actor, Alfred Vargas. Gabriel, Alfred's character, does reporting duties covering Darna's exploits. He will eventually develop a deep admiration for the heroine.
State-of-the-art special effects, star-studded
cast, cutting edge action sequences and world-class production design sums up
this year's version of Darna.
