Nine full-length entries are competing in the New Breed of Filmmakers section of the 6th Cinemalaya while five films from veteran directors are vying for the top plum in the Director's Showcase category.
The 2010 Cinemalaya Philippine Independent Film Festival will run from July 9-18, 2010 at the Cultural Center of the Philippines.

Sigwa (the Tagalog term for "storm") tackles the tumultuous period of the '70s known as the First Quarter Storm. This entry is one of five entries competing in the Director's Showcase category of Cinemalaya.

There are nine full-length films competing in the New Breed category of Cinemalaya. Halaw, directed by Sheron Dayoc, is one of these films.The title of the film is a Malaysian term meaning "deported" or "rejected." Shot mostly in Barangay Taluksangay, Zamboanga City, Halaw stars John Arcilla (in photo) as an illegal recruiter.

The Cinemalaya entry
Limbunan depicts the rituals of a family preparing for a weddingin Maguindanao. The title of the film is culled from the private quarters of the bride-to-be called limbunan.
Joem Bascon (in photo) is cast as a military man who used to be the tutor of the bride-to-be Ayesah (Jea Lyka Cinco).
