There was an outpouring of grief and sadness as friends and relatives of Melody came to see her and offer a prayer for her.

Melody was the second child in a brood of three of Wolfgang and Bot Gersbach. Melody is very fond of her younger sister, Maggie, whom she likes to dress up and experiment some make-up tech on. Older brother Marlon flew back to the Philippines from Egypt where he teaches watersports.

Melody first entered a beauty pageant in their hometown in Albay winning the title Mutya ng Magaynon in 2008. She later entered the Miss Bicolandia pageant where she placed first runner-up.

A year later, Melody entered Bb. Pilipinas and won the crown to represent the country in the Miss International pageant. Melody's batch in Bb. Pilipinas also included Bianco Manalo (Bb. Pilipinas-Universe) and Marie Ann Umali (Bb Pilipinas-World).

Melody was under the management arm of Mercator Models headed by Jonas Gaffud. 

Other beauty queens present that night at the wake were (bottom frame, L-R) Marie-Ann Umali and Bianca Manalo.
