Mother and daughter bond in Amanpulo!

Last Holy Week, 2004, Zsa Zsa Padilla took her daughters to the very private, and very expensive, Amanpulo beach resort in Palawan, for a five-day beach holiday. They were joined Kris Aquino, who brought along her son Joshua.

"Here's a pic of me in the hammock," says Karylle. "We sunbathed every day with sunblock, but on the last day we used tanning lotion. I got my real color back four months after. I loved my tan."

Karylle wanted a souvenir photo of herself on the yacht rented by her Tita Kris, so Zsa Zsa took over as official photographer.
"We went snorkeling," Karylle says. "Me and my sisters stayed in the water until my mom said the big fish were swimming toward us. Hehe. Of course, we panicked and hurriedly swam back to the yacht."

"Aman is also beautiful at night," says Karylle, who took this striking photograph of Zsa Zsa. "I spent a lot of time alone on the beach under the moon and the stars. I felt like I had the whole island to myself. I just hung out in this beach with my sarong on this sand, my flashlight, my journal, and my mom's iPod. It was the best."

The swimming and the biking must have taken their toll on Karylle. This was a deep and long afternoon siesta.

"One of the best parts about being in Amanpulo is that there is no [cellphone] signal," says Karylle, here in the resort lounge with her sisters. "It's peaceful! Torture 'yon for others. Aside from that, your casita is very private. You have your own mini-garden surrounding your casita. It also comes complete with your own sunbathing area and our favorite pictorial spot, the hammock." Casita (Spanish for "small house") is the resort's term for private cottage, a.k.a. bahay-kubo.

(L-R) Sisters Zia, Nicole, and Karylle. "Amanpulo is paradise!" Karylle gushes. "The water is so clear that you can see the sand. Even at the most shallow part of the beach, you can spot at least one school of fish. So you swim around with a bunch of fish following you, although it's hard to touch them. You can feed them with leftover breakfast bread. My sister Zia adopted a pet crab while we were on the island... then she set it free before we left. The sand is wonderful-white sand. It's great to walk around. There are so few people on the island. And you'll hardly ever bump into anyone."
