PEP (Philippine Entertainment Portal) was
present when Cosmopolitan marked its first decade as the bible of fun,
fearless females everywhere.

Fun, fearless Pinays drooled over
the Spartan-looking hunks hand-picked by the Cosmo staff to entertain the
guests who partied at the Rockwell Tent last May 3. During the 10th anniversary
party of this Summit Media publication, two-time cover girl Phoemela Baranda,
Cosmo centerfolds Will Devaughn and R&B singer Jay-R were present to show
their gratitude for the glossy that made their careers shine a lot more
brighter.
Sexy model Joey Mead arrived at
the event wearing a funky Kate Torralba creation. When asked to pick a position
in government that she wants to run for, she is quick to say that it could be
any position as long as she can help save the environment. "I want us to have
more greenery because we are a tropical country and we should have more
greenery." She wants the Philippines to be more tourist friendly because as she
puts it: "Sayang our beautiful country."
Kate Torralba, the happy "maximalist" as she
describes herself, arrived at the Cosmo event and posed with good
friend, Joey Mead, who was wearing her creation that night. These two just
embody Cosmo's motto: be a fun, fearless female!
Phoemela Baranda first made it to Cosmo's
pages when she was just 16. Since then, she has been on the cover of the glossy
twice. This model-turned-TV personality is thankful to Cosmo because it
helped build up her portfolio. She tells PEP (Philippine Entertainment Portal):
"When you make it to the cover of Cosmo, I mean that's it, you're on the
top list already."
Jay-R arrived with his girlfriend
of 8 years, Myra Eliza Calove, who was wearing a sexy and chic outfit in line
with the theme that night. PEP (Philippine Entertainment Portal) asked Jay-R:
"If you could run for any political position, what would it be?" To this, the
R&B artist jokingly replied, "I'd go for the president...of the United
States!"
Cosmo centerfold Will Devaughn
says that Cosmo has changed his life for the better. "I think it made me
a better person because of the beautiful people that I met working inside Cosmo
like the editor-in-chief and the staff...they're so down to earth. That makes
me realize how good people can be here in the Philippines. They're really close
to me—almost like a family—so I respect them."
IC Mendoza, who graced the party
with a mix-and-match ensemble, posed delightedly in front of the cameras. He is
now working on an indie movie with Cesar Montano. IC reveals that he has been
reading Cosmo regularly since Bianca Gonzalez was on the cover of the
glossy. "Nagbabasa ako ng Cosmo tapos natatawa ko at nai-inspire ko.
Nakakakuha pa ko ng maraming fashion tips, lahat naman nung pa-girl ko kasi,
nakukuha ko dun."
Robbie Carmona of Philippines' Next Top Model directed the event and brought in Spartan-like hunks for Cosmo's female
guests. He described the concept of the show as a "a fun fearless party just
for all the females like you. I was so inspired with the movie Spartans so
I brought in a lot of guys, there's a lot of abs for you girls to enjoy." [The Spartans
thathe is referring to is the movie 300, which starred 300
Spartans all sporting rock-hard abs. However, due to budget and space
constraints, there were around 30 hunks that showed off their drool-worthy
bodies that night.]
Nicole Bulatao, Marie Claire and
T3 associate publisher, is lucky enough to have her photo taken onstage
with two of the topless hunks parading around at the Rockwell Tent that night.
Even though May 2007 cover boy Piolo Pascual was
unable to attend that night, guests such as Irene Curtis of Seventeen
had a ball posing in front of the giant-sized Cosmo cover that adorned
the entrance of the Rockwell Tent. It is the first time that Cosmo chose
a male to grace the cover of the glossy. On the other side of the magazine is
the Mega-daughter KC Concepcion, who shares her kilig stories with the Cosmo
staff.
The fabulous staff of Cosmopolitan,
all clad in hot pink and black, give big smiles for the cameras. After all,
they had just celebrated their first decade of helping Pinays tap their full
potential.
Month after month, the hardworking staff of Cosmo take the time to create a fun, fearless magazine for Pinays everywhere. They are (from left) Katrina Dy, fashion editor; Red de Leon, art director; Nicole delos
Angeles, assistant beauty editor; Zo Aguila, acting editor-in-chief; Ichi Apostol,
associate publisher; Krisel Raymundo, publishing assistant; Joanne Go,
editorial assistant; and Leslie Lee, managing editor.
Not only did KC Concepcion and Piolo Pascual
grace the covers of the May 2007 issue of Cosmo, their images also
adorned the birthday cakes sponsored by Red Ribbon.
