Volta was first seen on the big screen in 2004. However, to give a new flavor to its TV version, Direk Wenn Deramas changed the plot by granting Perla's [Ai-Ai] wish—to have someone to love.
Direk Wenn pointed out, "Dito, para naming pinaghalo Ang Tanging Ina at Volta. First time silang makakakita dito ng pamilyadong superhero."

When not in her superhero form, Ai-Ai delas Alas plays the role of Perla who, according to the comedienne, "Isang simpleng babae, malamya."
Perla retired from being a super heroine and focused her time on being a loving housewife and mother to her two kids. But her guru (voiced over by TV host and Ai-Ai's manager Boy Abunda) asked her to become Volta once again to defend the earth from the aliens called Pamilya Maskulado.

The youngest child of Volta is named Pepper and has the codename 110 when in superhero form. She is played by child actress Mariel Pamintuan who describes her character as someone who has sharp sense of smell.

Perla's children, Salty and Pepper, inherited her superpowers, which will be revealed in the later part of the story.

When asked to describe his working relationship with DJ who plays the role of Anthony in Volta, Jason says, "Ako'y galak na galak nang makasama ko siya. Mas makulit pa pala siya sa akin, hindi naman mahirap kasama si DJ."

Direk Wenn Deramas was inspired by the cartoon movie titled The Incredibles. From here, he got an idea of adding the Pamilya Maskulado as the villains of Volta. The family is composed of composed of Carlos Morales (as Incredible Hulk), Jackielou Blanco (as Black Hola), Jessy Mendiola (as Chappy Girl), and Quentin Alianza (as Ice Ice Baby).

The Maskulado Family. "Yung pamilya nila Jackielou parang The Incredibles 'yan, e," Direk Wenn described. "May kanya-kanyang power parang superheroes. Kaya lang sa planeta nila, inabuso nila yung power na yun kaya sila napatapon. Masyado silang corrupt dun sa kanilang planeta."

Direk Wenn said Volta's weakness is her family. This is why Direk Wenn included the Pamilya Maskulado. He said, "Yung strength nila [Pamilya Maskulado] as a family ginawa kong panlaban kay Volta kasi yun lang din ang weakness ni Volta, ang pamilya. Para medyo balanse ang pakikipaglaban."

Direk Wenn Deramas (right) said that he and Ai-Ai really dreamed of Volta to be adapted in television or in komiks. So when Ms. Charo Santos-Concio told him to do a TV series of Volta, Direk Wenn felt really happy.
"Sobra akong na-excite kasi yun yung dream namin ni Ai-Ai [delas Alas] nung ginawa namin yung pelikula, e—na malagay siya sa comics, 'tapos malagay siya sa TV. So ito na yun," he happily narrated.
