This living room also acts as the common room for the seven bedrooms on the same floor as well as for the suite on the floor above. The paintings on the wall were done by Patricia herself. She reveals that she has been painting since May 2004 and that she honed her skills during the long waits between takes. “’Yong tipong kahit nasa trabaho ako, nagpe-paint ako habang naghihintay. Sa set, gano’n.”

Patricia attends even to the small details, like picking out the tiles for the stairs you see here. “Nabili ko ’yan sa bayan. Sa Antipolo.” These stairs go up to the living quarters and go down to the swimming pool.

When we noted the “Arabian Nights” feel of the queen-sized bed, which set the tone for the whole room, Patricia explained the inspiration for its design: “Pinasadya ko talaga kasi mahilig ako sa mga fairy tales. Mga prinse-prinsesa!”

The inner part of the dining area is an extension of the larger dining area outside. At the time of our interview, only the dining area and the living room had been finished. But soon, Patricia plans on opening a beauty parlor and a souvenir shop downstairs selling Patricia Javier memorabilia.

Although this room is called the “Patricia Room,” Patricia doesn’t actually sleep here. She explains how it got its name: “Lahat ng gamit nilagay ko dito. Merong personal touch ko talaga. Para 'pag nagpunta sila rito...” She left the sentence hanging for fear of sounding pretentious. But her meaning was clear: She wanted guests to feel as if they were hanging out with her whenever they were in the room.
