Ai-ai delas Alas and Paolo Contis were both overwhelmed by acting awards given to them by the PMPC. The comedienne was honored for her movie Ang Cute ng Ina Mo while the GMA-7 star won for the film Banal.
Dawn Zulueta and Piolo Pascual were both recipients of special awards that night. The wife of Congressman Anton Lagdameo was named as the Celebrity Mom of the Night. The matinee idol, on the other hand, bagged two awards: the male Celebrity Fab of the Night award as well as the Male Face of the Night.
In honor of Rudy Fernandez, the action star who died of cancer last June 7, ASAP '08 mainstays Erik Santos, Pops Fernandez, and SOP host Gian Magdangal performed the song written by Tirso Cruz III
titled "Awit ni Daboy."
Valerie Concepcion entertained the crowd by performing to the tune of the upbeat song, "Hot Stuff." Looking gorgeous in her white dress, the single mother showed that she is still one hot momma.
Paolo Contis was so nervous that he forget to thank GMA-7 reporter-turned-director Cesar Apolinario who helmed his movie Banal. The PMPC recognized Paolo for his bida-kontrabida role in this Metro Manila Film Fest entry.
Eugene Domingo, in her usual self-deprecating humor, noted that in the indie movie Pisay, she was able to act as a character that she rarely portrays—a science teacher. She also took this opportunity to thank her parents for supporting her education.
Emilio Garcia asked permission from his handlers to attend the awarding ceremony of PMPC. After receiving the Movie Supporting Actor of the Year award, he went back to this taping of Magdusa Ka.
For the first time, Cathy Garcia-Molina was able to go up onstage to receive a directing award for One More Chance. "Nakakanerbiyos po pala dito [sa stage]," she admitted. "Noong nasa film school ako [at the University
of the Philippines-Diliman], sabi ko hindi ko kakalimutan ang mga taong
tumulong sa akin. Lord, thank you sa talent na pinahiram ninyo sa akin."
Nash Aguas was recognized for his outstanding performance in the "Daddy's Angel" episode of the three-part movie Angels. This particular episode was directed by Dingdong Dantes.
Ogie Alcasid went up the stage twice that night: one for his award for Movie Original Theme Song of the Year and the other time to receive the Darling of the Press award, in behalf of his girlfriend Regine Velasquez. His composition "Paano Kita Iibigin" was interpreted by Piolo Pascual, who happened to be the leading man of Regine.
When Dawn Zulueta accepted her award as the Celebrity Mom of the Night, she said, "This is a very pleasant surprise. It's wonderful to be a mom." She is the doting mother of her young son Jacobo.
John Lloyd Cruz lost the Movie Actor of the Year award to Paolo Contis but he did not go home empty-handed. The matinee idol was named as the Male Star of the Night, prompting him to quip, "I was actually hoping to win tonight para may
[pambili ng] gas. Ang mahal na po kasi ng gas kaya bago mag-midnight, magpa-gas
na po kayo."
Lovi Poe almost tripped as she went up the stage. As soon as she reached the microphone, she joked, "Para akong action star dun ha!"
The daughter of the late action star Fernando Poe Jr. was given the award of New Movie Actress of the Year for her role in the movie Shake, Rattle, and Roll 9.
Maja Salvador wore this peach-colored gown when she received the award for Female Fab Celebrity of the Night. In the 23rd Star Awards for Movies, Maja was the New Movie Actress of the Year.
Eula Valdes expressed her surprise upon receiving the award for Female Star of the Night. "Kaya pala ayaw nila [organizers] akong paalisin after kong mag-present." Earlier that night, she presented an award along with Jestoni Alarcon.
Kuh Ledesma sang the lullaby "Ugoy ng Duyan" during the last part of the awarding ceremony. The diva was supposed to sing a duet with Christopher de Leon but the actor was unable to attend that night.
According to Robert Pangis, co-chairman of the 24th Star Awards for Movies, they screened over fifty films to choose the best performances and the best films of 2007.
