Ang Filipino-American singer-actor na si Darren Criss ang nanalo bilang Best Actor in a Limited Series or Movie Made For Television sa 76th Golden Globe Awards.

Ginanap ang awards night kamakailan sa The Beverly Hilton sa Beverly Hills, California.

Si Darren ang tinuturing na first Filipino-American to win a Golden Globe Award.

Nanalo si Darren para sa pagganap niya bilang si Andrew Cunanan sa series na The Assassination of Gianni Versace: American Crime Story.

Si Andrew Cunanan ay ang controversial Fil-American na bumaril sa famous Italian fashion designer na si Gianni Versace sa harap ng mansion nito sa Miami, Florida noong 1997.

Sa naging acceptance speech ni Darren, pinasalamatan nito ang kanyang Filipino mother na si Cerina Criss na taga-Cebu.

“I am so enormously proud to be a teeny, tiny part of that as the son of a firecracker Filipino woman from Cebu that dreamed of coming to this country and getting to be invited to cool parties like this.

“Mom, I know you’re watching this. You are hugely responsible for most of the good things in my life. I love you dearly. I dedicate this to you.”

Kasama rin sa acceptance speech ni Darren ang pasasalamat niya sa mga teachers at sa co-nominees niya sa napanalunan category na sina Antonio Banderas (Genius: Picasso), Daniel Brühl (The Alienist), Benedict Cumberbatch, (Patrick Melrose), and Hugh Grant (A Very English Scandal).

“I’d like to thank my teachers who are watching at home, and that actually includes all of my fellow nominees who I’ve admired your work from afar for so long, and whether you like it or not, you’re actually a part of this, so thank you for your inspiration,” he said.

Na-mention din ni Darren ang kanyang fiancee na si Mia Swier for her “undying love and patience.”

Noong September 2018, napanalunan ni Darren sa 70th Emmy Awards ang Outstanding Lead Actor in a Limited Series or Movie para rin sa Assassination Of Gianni Versace.

Pinanganak sa San Francisco, California si Darren. Siya ang youngest child ni Cerina at Charles William Criss (na may English, German and Irish descent) from Pittsburg, Pennsylvania.

Unang nakilala si Darren sa musical TV series na Glee bilang si Blaine Anderson noong 2010. Pero ang TV debut niya ay sa 2009 TV series na Eastwick. Nasundan ito ng isang guest episode sa series na Cold Case in 2010.

At age 10 ay umaarte na si Darren sa theater. His stage debut was in 1997 via Fanny at nasundan ito ng Do I Hear a Waltz? (1998) at Babes in Arms (1999).

Marami rin siyang nilabasan na plays for American Conservatory Theater's plays tulad ng A Christmas Carol, A Midsummer Night's Dream, and The Voysey Inheritance.

At the University of Michigan kunsaan nakatapos ng Bachelor of Fine Arts degree si Darren (majoring in Theater Performance and minoring in Musicology and Italian), nagbida siya sa stage productions tulad ng Pride and Prejudice, A Few Good Men, and The Cripple of Inishmaan.

Co-founder naman si Darren ng StarKid Productions, na isang musical theater company kunsaan gumanap ito sa mga Harry Potter musical comedies tulad ng A Very Potter Musical, A Very Potter Sequel, and A Very Potter Senior Year (based on the Harry Potter series of novels by J.K. Rowling).

Ang movie debut naman ni Darren ay noong 2012 sa comedy film na Girl Most Likely (retitled Imogene) at co-stars niya rito sina Kristen Wiig, Annette Bening, at Matt Dillon.

Advocate rin si Darren ng The Trevor Project, isang national organization na may suicide prevention efforts para sa lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and questioning (LGBTQ) youth.
