The on-screen love team that made us fall in love in movies such as You Are The One, You Got Me, and My Big Love, are paired once again to keep the romance alive even after the love month. Sam Milby and Toni Gonzaga sing together the romantic songs in their latest album called Love Duets.
At its press launch held on Friday, February 27, the country's hitmakers serenaded the media with songs like "If Ever You're In My Arms" and "Suddenly," which are both included in the album.
Nixon Sy, promo unit head of Star Records, said that although there has been a slight delay with the release of the album, which was initially scheduled on February 15, it was still worth the wait.
"'Yong nangyari is medyo sa scheduling lang din kasi. Pero sa lahat ng ginawa, all-out support sila [Sam and Toni] doon sa recording... Mayroon din kasing ibang schedules na nauna sa amin pero it's worth the wait," he explained.
Mr. Sy said that having both Sam and Toni in an album was actually the idea of Star Cinema's head Malou Santos. He also added that their avid fans, commonly called as SamTiners, have long been requesting to have them together in a music album.
He narrated, "Their first duet po kasi, 'yong ‘You Are The One,' okay po ang reception ng tao doon and sa ‘If Ever You're In My Arms Again.' So, whenever we do a mall show, we get a lot of messages and e-mails po from fans to do that album.
"'Yon ding Love Duets, ang nakakatuwa, nag-pitch din kami sa mga fans club nila. Humingi kami ng title [ng album] if ever sina Sam at Toni. Ang Love Duets, 'yon din pong fans nila ang nag-pitch din po. 'Tapos ang nangyari, doon po sa pagko-concept, sinabi namin kina Ms. Annabel [Regalado-Borja, Star Records managing director] and Ms. Malou [Santos, Star Cinema]. Um-okay po si Tita Malou, and siya po ang nakiki-jamming in terms of the songs. Doon po nagsimula—from the fans club, 'tapos po kina Ms. Annabel and Tita Malou."
Thus, the creation of this nine-track romatic album. This include popular duet songs such as "Cruisin'," "Back Into Love," "Time of My Life," "Against All Odds," "In Love With You," "Suddenly" "You Are The One," "If Ever You're In My Arms Again," and the medley of "Sometimes When We Touch" and "After All."
Before collaborating with each other for a music album, Sam and Toni both had their individual contribution in the local music scene. Multi-media artist Toni has already released three successful albums such as You Complete Me, Falling In Love, and Love Is... Meanwhile, the pop icon Sam has two well-loved albums—the first is his self-titled debut album and the other is called A Little Too Perfect.
In the next two months, after enjoying the good blending of Sam's and Toni's voices, Star Records is set to give their followers an extra treat by joining these two singers in a music concert.
"Ito kasing Love Duets parang prequel lang 'to," said Mr. Sy. "Mayroon kaming inaayos, kakausapin namin ang respective managers nila, for a one-night concert around May. Parang doon na po magku-culminate lahat."
