They say film is a powerful medium to convey a message to its viewers. So, for the third year in a row, Dakila—Philippine Collective for Modern Heroism, will use this powerful tool to relate the importance of knowing and understanding issues of human rights.
Started in 2008, Active Vista Film Festival aims to promote "a vision of society that respects, upholds, and values the dignity, rights, and freedom of its people."
"Cinema with a conscience," further described Dakila co-founder Lourd de Veyra during his speech at the opening of Active Vista Film Festival last July 20 at the Shangri-La Mall in Mandaluyong City.
This year, Dakila will be screening more than 20 films in 17 provinces nationwide. These include classic works like Orapronobis and Insiang and award-winning independent movies such as Lola, Ploning, Tribu, and Kinatay.
There will also be seminars, workshops, and discussion not only about film making but also other major issues affecting certain areas in the country.
Active Vista Film Festival will culminate on December 10, International Human Rights Day, wherein the 10 Best Short Films will be awarded at the same time.
