“Nung binasa ko ang Of Mice and Men, well I was excited to ano…

“I re-read the material again but nung binasa ko ito back in school, I remember, nakornihan ako because it was just a... parang nakornihan ako sa images, yung mga daga, yung mga ganun. Basta, it just didn’t move me as much.

“That was like, I was in high school, pero itong recently, I looked at it again and knowing everything has been going on, parang ang lakas ng resonance for me to do it now.

"I think ang mahalaga doon is that nag-iisa kasi si George at saka si Toto. I mean they’re unique in the story in the sense na sila talaga yung meron silang relationship, hindi sila kanya-kanyahan and the rest of the farming community doon medyo, you know, ‘I protect myself,’ you know, ganun-ganun, parang self-protection.

“They’ll do what they can do to survive pero hindi ganun katindi yung relationship with each other kaya may divisions nun.

“In Toto and George ang talagang merong connection, ‘no?

“But as the story goes on, parang you see also the dreams at saka yung need for connection ng ibang characters, so it’s a very human story.

“It’s very political din, of course, pero at the heart of it, there’s a certain... yung core of it, meron siyang humanity.

“So it’s timely and relevant in that way, kasi tayo rin, kahit na hindi tayo kapit sa patalim… itong mga characters sa Of Mice and Men at saka sa Katsuri, kapit sa patalim ang situation.

“And of course, ang nangyayari sa Bacolod, kapit sa patalim din pero a lot of the farmers din.

“Hindi lahat ng tao in the community, hindi mag-a-agree siyempre. Hindi naman tayo lahat kapit sa patalim pero it speaks pa rin of everybody.

“Kasi, itong issues of being selfish, self-centered, yung kanya-kanya, self-protection versus empathizing with other people, finding the common things among us instead of the things that divide us...

“That still resonates with everybody. Kaya I thought it resonates with what’s going on today, politically, and on a more personal level, that’s why I decided to do it.”

“Well, it hasn’t occurred to us to do a movie of this at this time pero it’s a possibility, it would be good if we could get some interest in that.”

I got offers to do more theatre, and so… I’ve been enjoying it, and you know, working, iba yung proseso, iba yung rehearsal process and it can really develop between a longer period, mga four, five weeks.

“So it’s gotten to be… you know, I’m learning a lot from it and I’m meeting a whole new community.

“Pero nandun pa rin ako sa ano, I’m in touch with the movie world, I’m involved with the screening committee dun sa Pista ng Pelikulang Pilipino and dito sa Sine Sandaan the last time, I was a participant in that.

“Meron pa kaming dini-develop na screenplay pero we don’t know when that will happen, I’m hoping baka mga next year, for us to shoot the film.”
