OJ Mariano leads cast of Rivalry: Ateneo La Salle the Musical

Rivalry: Ateneo La Salle the Musical, is back for a “threepeat” to open the Cultural Center of the Philippines’ artistic calendar. After two successful runs at the Meralco Theater, the show is ready to be brought back to life in the center of Philippine arts and culture.

Rivalry was first staged last January 2012 and received unanimous praise from the audiences and the press for putting up a phenomenal original Filipino production about the real lives of students and how they cope up with day-to-day family rules and chores, school norms and academic proficiency.

Since its first running in 2012, the production has been decorated with numerous awards including BroadwayWorld Manila Award’s Best Music for an Original Filipino Musical (Ed Gatchalian) Aliw Award’s Best Stage Direction (Jaime del Mundo) and Best Musical Director (Ed Gatchalian).

In the lead roles, taking the center stage are OJ Mariano, second runner up of ABS-CBN’s Star in a Million and 2006 Awit Award’s Best New Male Recording Artist as Paco Valencia, the Ateneo star player.

Alongside him, playing Tommy Basilio—the La Salle basketball star—is Fred Lo, fresh from his staring as Prince Charming, in Cinderella. Athena Tibi returns to the stage as Reena San Jose, the Maryknoller who captures the attention and affection of an Atenean and a La Sallite; and Aliw Award nominee for Best Actor, Red Concepcion as Quito Valencia, brother to Ateneo’s Paco, and cousin La Salle’s Tommy.

Mica Pineda (Reena San Jose - double ) and Pinky Marquez (Andrea Valencia) are new faces who will surely infuse an all-new chemistry and onstage energy with the original and fellow Rivalry cast members.

The supporting cast includes Juliene Mendoza as Anton Valencia, Raymund Concepcion as Demetrio Basilio, Sheila Francisco as Dolores Basilio; Jun Ofrasio as the Ateneo coach and Chino Veguillas as the La Salle coach, and a special appearance of Noel Trinidad as Eliseo Genaro

The artistic and creative team of Rivalry is led by Ed Gatchalian (Musical Director, Composer, Arranger and Orchestrator), Jaime Del Mundo (Book), Joel Trinidad (Lyricist), Nancy Crowe (Choreographer), Ed Lacson Jr, (Director).

The production staff is composed of Ayam Eckstein (Production Manager), Roanne Cornejo (Stage Manager), Adrian Rubite (Deputy Stage Manager); Jeremy Aguado (Executive Asst).

Rivalry at CCP will be running for ONE WEEKEND ONLY at the CCP Little Theater January 17 to 18, 2014. Tickets are now available at all Ticketworld outlets.
