Judy Ann Santos will try her hand at horror as she topbills T'yanak, a reboot of the 1988 classic film co-directed by Peque Gallaga and Lore Reyes.

Aside from Juday, this horror flick also stars Tom Rodriguez, Solenn Heussaff and Sid Lucero.

Juday and Solenn recently took part in the script reading for the project and they are scheduled to have their first shooting day on September 2.

Tiyanak, the original movie that starred Janice de Belen, was about a childless woman who took care of an abandoned baby that turned out to be a demon in disguise.

The 1988 film won the Gawad Urian Award for Best Sound.

The 2014 version is again co-directed by Direk Peque and Direk Lore. In the film, a quiet town called Puting Bato is terrorized by savage murders. The chief suspect is the foundling baby who is under the care of Julie (played by Judy Ann Santos).

Her brother Mark (played by Tom Rodriguez) and his fiancee Madie (played by Solenn Heussaff) become the target of the T’yanak.

A widower who lost his wife in a vicious T’yanak attack (Sid Lucero) adds a brutal layer of terror in a town already petrified by fear.

In a 2008 interview published by the Philippine Daily Inquirer, Direk Peque revealed that he wanted to remake his movie Tiyanak. He was quoted as saying: “In my original Tiyanak, we used hand puppets. With all the digital wizardry now, it would be fantastic, a lot more sophisticated."

T'yanak is one of the films that will take part in the Horror Festival organized by the Film Development Council of the Philippines (FDCP).
