Child actress Miel Espinoza narrates how she auditioned to be the young Darna. If she gets picked by Star Cinema, she could be playing the young Narda/Darna to be portrayed by Jane de Leon.
The 7-year-old Miel disclosed this during the Pan de Salawal presscon held last July 21 at the Limbaga 77 restaurant in Quezon City.
"Nag-audition na po ako. Mga 100 plus tapos naging 200 ata," she said about the number of young girls who auditioned for the coveted role.
What happened during her audition to be the young Darna?
"May line po tapos pina-acting po kami. May pina-memorize na line tapos pina-acting sa amin."
After doing the movie Pan de Salawal, what are her other projects?
"Sa Star Cinema po, may tatlong pelikula ako pero hindi ko pa po alam kung ako ang magiging young Darna.
"Masaya po siya saka favorite ko yung mga laban-laban saka action."
Has she met Jane de Leon in the past?
Miel revealed, "Na-meet ko na siya before sa Halik tapos naging young Jane de Leon na ako sa MMK [Maalaala Mo Kaya] kaya kilala ko na po siya.
"Lagi niya akong nilalambing. Mabait po siya. Lagi niya akong pinapapunta sa kanya. Niyayakap, kinakalong niya ako. Lagi niya akong sinasabihan ng ‘I love you.’"
This 2019, Miel will be seen in the zombie horror movie Block Z, which is directed by Mikhail Red.
“Nagsu-shoot ako ng Block Z pero hindi pa tapos. Two shooting days pa lang.
"Sa Block Z, ako po yung anak ni Ina Raymundo. May squad po sila ng Joshlia, si McCoy [de Leon], si Elisse [Joson] pati si Yves [Flores] tapos ako yung kaisa-isang bata."
Joshlia refers to the love team of Joshua Garcia and Julia Barretto.
In Pan de Salawal, Miel acts opposite Bodjie Pascua, Anna Luna, and Felix Roco. The film also stars Madeleine Nicolas, Soliman Cruz, and Ruby Ruiz.
The Cinemalaya 2018 entry Pan De Salawal will be screened in select cinemas starting July 24.
This heartwarming Filipino film depicts the friendship of a seven-year-old girl with healing powers and an ill-stricken baker (played by Bodjie Pascua of Batibot fame).
Pan de Salawal tells the story of Aguy (Miel) who rejuvenates the ailing community-along-the-tracks where Sal (Bodjie) resides.
Her character Aguy has the gift of healing but she needs to hurt the sick person before s/he gets cured.
When asked what is her favorite scene in the movie, Miel pointed out: "Nung naghagis po kami ng asin nung nag-bake kami saka yung nagsayaw po kami sa ending."
Los Angeles-based producer CineFocus Productions partnered with local distributor Solar Pictures to bring Pan De Salawal to Pinoy moviegoers.
