Culion producer Shandii Bacolod comments on exclusion of Nora Aunor (in photo) movie Isa Pang Bahaghari from MMFF 2019.

“To be honest po, part of the staff and actors po ng Bahaghari are my friends and my colleagues. You know I have so much respect for them,” sabi ni Mark Shandii Bacolod, producer ng Culion, nang makausap namin nitong Oktubre 16 sa Club Filipino, San Juan.

“And hindi ako makapag-comment, kasi siyempre, di ba, it involves Ate Guy and I’m a Noranian, I have so much respect.

“So, with what happened in 2016, siyempre nagkasakitan kami ni Ate Guy and nagkausap na rin kami and asked forgiveness.”

"Ako, naniniwala po ako, kahit saan, basta po may pelikula po si Ate Guy, festival man o wala, it would be an important film!

“Sorry, Noranian po kasi talaga ako. So, iyon lang po ang masasabi ko, na parang festival man o wala, Ate Guy will always shine because she’s the brightest and she’s the Superstar and she’s a legend.

“Kapag sumali ka sa contest, there’s also the risk of you losing or not getting in.

“So like ako, ready po ako na kung hindi man kami matanggap. For sure, malulungkot ako talaga ng todo.

“Pero okay na rin po, kasi, at the end of the day, meron pong criteria. So, I respect na lang po the decision.”

Among the official entries, kanino kinakabahan si Shandii sa kategoryang Best Picture sa MMFF awards night sa December 27?

“Diyos ko! Without disrespecting or walang intended pun, kasi alam naman po ng lahat, kasi lagi kong sinasabi, I think I’m one of the biggest fans of Brillante Mendoza.

"I’m friends with him, yung respeto ko sa kanya, OA. Yung talagang... Diyos ko! Lahat ng pelikula niya, pinapanood ko.

“So, nakakakaba na may Brillante Mendoza sa Metro Manila Film Festival.

"Because si Brillante never did anything na, alam mo yun, yung kunwari, parang below 100. Always above 100 siya!

“So, nakakakaba pero at the same time, nakaka-excite na we’re in the same line with Direk Brillante.”

“Actually, when we got the formal invitation na lahat ng nag-submit for the finished product and the script, they invited us to come here, ayoko talagang pumunta.

Kasi, parang... you know, medyo parang, from 2016, you know I was a part of the 2016 and it was really controversial and maraming nangyari.”

“But si Iza, one of the executive producers told me talaga, ‘No besh, you have to come, let’s come! You know, in or out, we’re there to support the Philippine movie industry!’

Kasi, parang ako naman po, lagi kong sinasabi, with what happened with me in 2016, hindi ako nagtago, hindi ako tumakas, I faced everything, lahat ng hurdles na ipinasa sa akin, even the lawsuit.

“So you know, wala po akong sinisisi, it was our fault, and we learned our lessons the hardest way possible.

“And being able to produce again, and to be part of another Metro Manila Film Festival, siguro nga po, baka vindication po iyung tawag doon.

“So iyon, sobrang ano, hindi ko siya ma-compose, I’m so happy!”
