"Ang choice, para lang sa may pera."
A lot of Filipino workers can relate to this heartfelt line delivered by Kathryn Bernardo in the blockbuster 2019 movie Hello, Love, Goodbye.
This line reflects the dilemma faced by workers who are forced to leave their homes despite the dangers of getting the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) and the implementation of enhanced community quarantine measures by the government.
The now-viral tweet shows a clip from the Star Cinema movie starring Kathryn and GMA-7 actor Alden Richards.
The caption of the tweet goes: "This represents the poor Filipinos right now."
Kathryn's character is an Overseas Filipino Worker in Hong Kong who works as a domestic helper. She holds other part-time jobs in order to make ends meet.
In this scene, she tells Alden's character that she is angry and frustrated because she has no choice but to suffer and endure all these hardships in order to earn money for her family.
Kathryn's voice breaks as she says:
"Nagagalit ako kasi parang wala akong choice. Na kailangan kong gawin 'to, kasi kailangan ko ng trabaho, kasi wala kaming pera, para sa pamilya ko. Kaya lahat, kahit na ayoko, lulunukin ko na lang.
"Ang choice, para lang sa may pera."
