Tuloy na tuloy na ang naudlot noong kauna-unahang Summer Metro Manila Film Festival (MMFF).
Dapat ay noon pang 2020 isasagawa ang summer edition ng MMFF ngunit nabinbin ito dahil sa pandemya.
Pero ngayong 2023 ay wala nang makapipigil pa sa pagdaraos ng 1st Summer MMFF.
Ayon sa Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA), may kabuuang tatlumpo't tatlong (33) finished films ang isinumite ng filmmakers at producers para sa 1st Summer MMFF.
Dalawampu't tatlo (23) sa mga ito ay bagong pelikula, at sampu (10) naman ang resubmissions mula sa December 2022 MMFF.

Maituturing itong makasaysayan dahil ito ang may pinakaraming naisumiteng film entries mula nang magsimula ang taunang MMFF.
Ikinatuwa ito ng MMDA lalo na't umaasa silang magiging matagumpay ang gaganaping summer filmfest na anila'y isang oportunidad para magbalik sigla ang film industry sa bansa.

Mula sa tatlumpo't tatlong (33) entries, masusi nang napili ang walong (8) official entries na mapapanood sa mga sinehan nationwide mula April 8 hanggang April 18, 2023.
Sa pangunguna nina MMFF 2022 Selection Commitee Chairman Boots Anson Roa-Rodrigo at MMDA Acting Chairman and MMFF Over-all Chair Atty. Artes, opisyal nang inanunsiyo ng MMDA ang walong pelikulang kalahok sa 1st Summer MMFF ngayong Biyernes, February 24, 2023.
