“Parang two weeks na lang, matatapos na rin kami,” sambit ni Dolly sa mediacon ng Cinemalaya XIX nitong Hulyo 5, 2023, Miyerkules, sa Philippine International Convention Center (PICC), CCP Complex, Pasay City.
Ano pa ang na-discover niya kay Kathryn?
“Sobrang cool na babae! Tingin ko kasi sa kanya dati, parang nerd na parang ano, geek, parang boring!” bulalas ni Dolly.
“Cool siya. Sobrang cool. She has many facets. She’s fun to be with. She’s funny. Nakakatawa siya. She’s kalog!
“She knows a lot. I’m learning a lot from her — not just about the industry, but a lot of things.
“Walang kaere-ere, wala at all! Walang kaere-ere. In fact, para siyang ano… ang nakikita ko talaga sa kanya, honestly, is parang batang Ate Guy.
“Kasi she’s so friendly. Di ba, ganun si Ate Guy?”
Ang Ate Guy na tinutukoy ni Dolly ay ang legendary actress na si Nora Aunor, na National Artist at tinaguriang Superstar.
Pagpapatuloy ni Dolly, “She’s very friendly, kahit sinong lumapit, she’s always welcoming ang very warm.
“So that’s what I learned from her, to be a very warm person and to be you know a person for the people.”
Ano naman ang natutunan ni Kathryn sa kanya?
Napakunot-noo si Dolly, “Hindi ko alam. Wala ata. Parang wala ata. Wala, oo, hmmnn… wala. Promise, wala!
“Tanungin niyo siya. Hindi ko alam, e. Wala ata.”

ITI MAPUKPUKAW
Suporta si Dolly sa dalawa sa sampung full-length features ng Cinemalaya XIX: Iluminasyon.
“Kung puwedeng kasama ako sa ten, why not?” pakli ni Dolly.
Nakasama na si Dolly sa dalawang Cinemalaya entries before.
Napangiti niyang salaysay, “Yung love affair ko with Cinemalaya, medyo masalimuot. Kasi, hindi ako makapasuk-pasok dito talaga.
“Ilang years akong nag-try. Nag-audition ako pero never akong napili. Pero may nagawa rin akong dalawa eventually.
“Kay Dennis Marasigan, yung Anatomiya ng Korupsyon (2011). Yung second ay Retirada, last year lang.
“Si Peewee O’Hara ang lead. Yung bingo nang bingo. Ako yung psychiatrist niya.”
At least, dalawa ang entries niya this year sa Cinemalaya filmfest.
“I’m supporting Paolo O’Hara in Ang Duyan ng Magiting, and Carlo Aquino in Iti Mapukpukaw.”
Matagal nang gustong maka-work ni Dolly si Carlo. Natupad iyon sa Iti Mapukpukaw (The Missing), ang unang animated full-length feature na magko-compete sa Cinemalaya indie filmfest.
“Never ko siyang nakatrabaho before. So finally, natupad. Kaya lang, it was frustrating. Kasi pipi siya dito, e,” pagtatapat ni Dolly.
“Hindi kami nagkakabatuhan ng linya. So, mata-mata acting lang kami. Pero happy pa rin ako na I said yes to it.
“Kasi he’s a very generous actor. Masarap siyang kaeksena. Si Carlo kasi, ang gusto ko kay Carlo, he’s really a very good actor.
“I’ve been watching a lot of his work in the past. Tapos noong nakatrabaho ko siya dito, ano siya, e.
“First time ko siyang na-meet, so medyo ano siya, hindi masyadong nagsasalita. Medyo shy, ganyan.
“Tapos yung karakter pa niya, wala talagang bibig. Physically wala talagang mouth.
“Pero I felt that the casting was perfect, na siya talaga yung gumanap. Kasi, nagamit talaga niya yung skills niya as an actor, especially with yung mata lang niya ang ginagamit niya.”
Live action syinut ang Iti Mapukpukaw (The Missing), sa panulat at direksyon ni Carl Joseph E. Papa. Nasa cast din ng queer drama na ito si Gio Gahol.

ANG DUYAN NG MAGITING
Ang drama na Ang Duyan ng Magiting (The Cradle of the Brave) ay isinulat at idinirek ni Dustin Celestino.
Kasama rin dito sina Bituin Escalante, Agot Isidro, Miggy Jimenez, Jojit Lorenzo, Frances Makil-Ignacio, Joel Saracho, at Dylan Ray Talon.
“Yung Duyan ng Magiting is an exploration on social injustice, and social commentary siya on the condition of the country,” pagsisiwalat ni Dolly.
“How corruption happens in government, in the police force, yun.”
Panahon ba ito ni Duterte, o sa kasalukuyang administrasyon?
“Walang mention of any panahon. It’s a timeless piece,” sabi ni Dolly.
“Ewan ko, ha? Baka pag si Dustin ang tinanong ninyo, sasabihin niyang baka martial law era, or baka present time.
“Pero ako, when I was doing it, I treated it like it’s timeless. Walang period. Ang role ko, social worker who is so sick of the system na very baluktot and corrupt.”

CINEMALAYA XIX: ILUMINASYON
Dahil under renovation ang Cultural Center of the Philippines (CCP), gaganapin ang Cinemalaya XIX: Iluminasyon sa Agosto 4-13 sa PICC.
Biru-biruan na ang bagong kahulugan ng PICC ay Philippine International Cinema Center.
Ipalalabas ang Cinemalaya films sa tatlong meeting rooms — Cinema Rizal (Meeting Room 1), Cinema Bonifacio (Meeting Room 2 and 3), at Cinema Felipe (Meeting Room 4).
Ang fringe events at talkbacks ay gaganapin sa Cinema Palma (Meeting Room 5). Ang exhibitions at filmmakers’ profiles ay idi-display sa Executive Lounge.
