Jessy Mendiola, Nadine Lustre, or Liza Soberano as Darna? Director gives pros and cons

While Star Cinema has yet to reveal the identity of the lead actress of its movie adaptation of Darna, Erik Matti gives his thoughts on the actresses rumored to bring life to the Pinoy superheroine.

Direk Erik was asked by Julius Babao and Zen Hernandez about casting Darna in an interview on DZMM Teleradyo this morning, January 16.

On Liza Soberano, Direk Erik said, "Liza is okay. I think she has strength.

"You can do a lot of things sa mukha niya. Ibig sabihin, you can do a lot of things sa hitsura, kapag nagupitan, and she could still really look good.

"At the same time, kay Liza, 'yong ganda niya is Pan-Asia. Mahirap 'yong mestiza."

"Kasi I've done two commercials with her a year ago, hindi ko lang alam kung ang height niya ay tama."

How about You're My Home star Jessy Mendiola?

However, he added, "Who knows, baka sa makeup we could make her a little more Filipino."

Direk Erik said he has yet to meet Arci Munoz.

He's also not keen on having Miss Universe 2015 Pia Wurtzbach.

He said, "Si Pia, alam niyo, bagay na bagay.

"Pero in the history of Darna, hindi talaga umuubra 'yong beauty queen.

DIFFERENT DARNA. Direk Erik pointed out the new movie adaptation of Darna will be different from previous versions, especially when it comes to the stunts.

"Even script-wise, we're trying to veer away from making it just a copy of a superhero movie.

"We wanted talaga to explore the superhero theme."
