Candy Pangilinan and Angeli Bayani tied for the Best Actress Award in the 2016 Cine Filipino Film Fest.

"I'm so grateful and actually surprised. Totoo pala yung I wasn't expecting this," gleefully said Candy Pangilinan, after the awarding ceremony held last March 19 at the KIA Theater.

Candy plays Nadia, a single mom who took on the challenge of raising her child with Down Syndrome wholeheartedly in Star na si Van Damme Stallone.

The theater-trained actress also confirmed that a fellow stage actor, Melvin Lee, referred her for the role.

Below is Candy's full acceptance speech:

"Thank you talaga sa Cine Filipino. Una ho si Lord, thank you ho, Lord. Thank you ho, Direk [Randolph Longjas]. The other winner in the Best Actress category is Angeli Bayani, who played a butch lesbian in Ned's Project seeking to have a child of her own.

Mas nandun ako sa feeling na shineshare ko siya with the members of the LGBT community--with the real Ned and, ah, siyempre, everyone who's part of Ned's Project.

I'm just really happy na una, may nanood; pangalawa, may nakinig; pangatlo, narecognize," said Angeli who had Max Eigenmann and Dionne Monsanto as her love interests in the movie.

Angeli also hinted that she might be working on a new film with director Adolf Alix Jr. soon.
