Sid Lucero named Best Actor; Toto wins at 19th LA Comedy Festival

Sid Lucero (left) won the Best Actor award at the 19th LA Comedy Festival for the movie Toto. This film, also starring Bembol Roco (right), was also chosen as Best Foreign Film.

Sid Lucero won the Best Actor award at the 19th LA Comedy Festival held recently in California.

The GMA-7 actor was cited for the movie Toto, which also won the award for Best Foreign Film.

Described as the largest comedy festival in the United States, the LA Comedy Festival was held May 12-22, 2016.

Sid plays the titular character Toto who works a bellboy in a hotel.

In the film fest's official website, the movie is described as follows: "A Filipino hotel room service attendant schemes his way to obtain a U.S. visa by all means, only to realize that the extremity of his actions also put the lives of his loved ones in danger."

The ambitious guy from Tacloban pins his hopes on an American citizen (played by Liza Diño) while jeopardizing his relationship with his lover (played by Mara Lopez). Toto also stars Thou Reyes, Blake Boyd, Neil Ryan Sese, Bibeth Orteza, and Bembol Roco.  

The film is directed by John Paul Su, who used to be a protege of director Carlos Siguion-Reyna. 

Toto was one of the entries that took part in the New Wave section of the 2015 Metro Manila Film Festival. It earned the Jury Prize as well as awards for Best Supporting Actor for Thou Reyes and Best Supporting Actress for Bibeth Orteza.
