Coco Martin is prepared to accept the box-office performance of Ang Panday when it opens in cinemas on Christmas Day.
"Since first time ko, gusto ko masunod yung nasa utak ko, yung vision ko para kung ano man ang kalabasan ng pelikula, walang sisihan. Binigay ko ang pinakabest ko," he said during the October 28 launch of the Ang Panday mobile game that is now available for Android phones.
How big is the budget allotted by Coco for his MMFF 2017 entry?
"Hindi ako nag-over budget kasi hindi ko alam magkano ang budget," admitted Coco who marks his first time to be a producer and director via this 2017 Metro Manila Film Fetival entry.
"Hindi ako nag-set ng limit na hanggang dito na lang tayo.
"Ayokong masabi nila na, 'Ah, minadali at tinipid.' Binuhos ko na lahat para masulit bayad ng manonood."
When PEP.ph (Philippine Entertainment Portal) asked Coco about updates regarding his he revealed that they already had their last shooting day.
"Hanggang sa last day, dugo’t pawis talaga kasi iyong location namin sobrang hirap."
The ABS-CBN actor recalled that they chose scenic spots in the Philippines as the setting of his action-fantasy film.
The cast and crew even hiked to the crater of a volcano.
Coco narrated, "Mayroon kaming location na binaba namin ang core ng bulkan at doon kami nag-shoot.
"Gusto ko ipakita yung pinakataas kaya inakyat namin yung tuktok. Bumaba kami tapos inakyat rin namin."
In his Instagram account, Coco recently posted his photo with Lito Lapid and Jhong Hilario in front of a cave.
Coco said about this location, "Meron pa kaming cave na pinuntahan sa bundok, sa Biak na Bato. Sabi nila, first time faw na may nag-shoot dun kasi napakahirap puntahan."
The former indie actor credits Cannes award-winning director Brillante Mendoza for honing his skills.
"Pinanganak ako sa indie, natuto ako sa mainstream. Kay Brillante Mendoza ako galing, so ang mindset walang imposible.
Ayoko ng parang sobrang structured iyong [eksena sa] palengke, tinuturo ko sa kanila strategy."
As a first-time filmmaker, Coco realized, "Hindi pala biro na ikaw yung director at ikaw yung producer kasi napakahirap ng pagdadaanan mo."
At least 80 actors are featured in Ang Panday, including Mariel de Leon and Jake Cuenca.
Coco revealed that he is planning to work again with Direk Brillante Mendoza but they have yet to finalize the concept of their upcoming indie film.
