Carlo Aquino takes on his first leading man role in a romantic movie via the upcoming film Meet Me In St. Gallen. He is paired with leading lady Bela Padilla.
According to the 32-year-old actor, he did not expect that the role will land on his lap.
He admitted, "Hindi. Kahit sa lifetime na ito o sa next lifetime ko, hindi ko ine-expect na magkakaroon ako ng ganitong klaseng blessing."
This is why Carlo is very thankful to the film production outfit Spring Films, which is co-owned by actor Piolo Pascual, along with director Joyce Bernal and talent manager Erickson Raymundo.
Carlo continued, "Kaya sobrang thankful ako sa Spring, kela PJ [Piolo's nickname], kela Direk Joyce, at saka kay Sir Erickson kasi ang laking tiwala nila sa akin na kaya ko to. At saka maganda talaga yung material."
What added to his excitement is the fact that it's the first time that Carlo shot a movie abroad.
Carlo and Bela shot for four days in Switzerland.
He narrated, "Sobra akong excited na kinakabahan. Ang laki ng pelikula, e.
"Yung shoot ko sa Switzerland, eight to ten hours kami nagtatrabaho dahil siyempre may mga Swiss kami dun na kasama.
"Pero nasa labas kami ng ganun katagal, ganun kalamig, ang hirap din, ang hirap umarte kasi nanginginig ka, e!"
Meet Me In St. Gallen, which will start showing on February 7, is the next movie produced by Spring Films after the massive hit Kita Kita starring Alessandra de Rossi and Empoy.
How does Carlo feel about this?
He admitted, "The pressure is over the top!
"Talagang ito yung first big film ko na lead ako, di ba, tapos sumusunod kami sa Kita Kita.
"Sobrang laki noong pressure pero sobrang excited din at saka hindi namin ginawa 'to na basta magawa lang."
PEP.ph (Philippine Entertainment Portal) spoke to Carlo after the movie's pictorial last January 9 in Quezon City.
LOVE SCENE WITH BELA. Meet Me In St. Gallen marks the first time that Bela and Carlo are working together for a project.
However, the ABS-CBN actor said that they have been friends even before doing the movie.
"First time, pero matagal na kami magkakilala, nagkakatext, nag-uusap pero never kaming nagkikita.
"Alam ko lang na nagsusulat siya tapos inaawitan ko siya na, 'Gawan mo naman ako na tayong dalawa.' So yun, nangyari din."
Carlo and Bela shot an intimate scene for the movie.
Since it's the first time that they worked with each other, did Carlo feel any awkwardness while shooting their love scene?
He answered, "Wala naman, kasi ang sarap katrabaho ni Bela, sobrang gaan."
In the movie, Carlo plays Jesse, a man who crosses paths with Celeste (Bela Padilla).
He elaborated, "Nagkaroon ng isang random night, nasa gig ako, dun ko siya nameet tapos parehas kaming nasa low part ng buhay namin.
"Tapos nagkakwentuhan, nagkaroon ng connection, spark, pero hindi na kami nag next step. Yun na yon.
"Tapos kung anong gagawin mo pag nakita mo yung soulmate mo o yung hinahanap mo na kaya mong mahalin."
