The 43rd edition of the Metro Manila Film Fest has proven to be a huge success in terms of audience turnout and box-office performance.
MMFF 2017 featured eight official entries: All of You, Ang Larawan, Deadma Walking, Haunted Forest, Meant to Beh, Ang Panday, Siargao, and Gandarrapiddo: The Revenger Squad.
During the January 17 thanksgiving party of MMFF 2017 held at the Sampaguita Gardens, the following revelations were made:
MMFF 2017 has reached over the P1 billion mark (with a record high of the first and second day grosses).
All the MMFF 2017 entries are graded by the Cinema Evaluation Board.
The 4 top-grossers of MMFF 2017 were:
1. The Revenger Squad
2. Ang Panday
4. Haunted Forest
The other 4 entries earned more than P30 million each (the highest in recent MMFF history). All the MMFF 2017 entries are still showing on their 4th week (and are still earning).
According to a highly reliable source of PEP.ph (Philippine Entertainment Portal), the eight entries earned a total of almost P1.5 billion and the figure is still growing since some movies are still being shown in cinemas.
During the program, MMFF spokesperson Noel Ferrer disclosed, "Normally, may nagsi-single digit [na box-office performance] yung lowest.
"Yung lowest na ito, matter of millions lang ang difference. More than P30 million ang nakuha nung nasa bottom four.
"Si Wilson Tieng [of Solar], they hold the record na pinakamababa. Nag-P2 million ang gross ng Thy Womb nung sila nag-release. Yun ang pinakamababa na gross ng buong MMFF."
According to Bing Advincula, vice-chairman of the MMFF selection committee:
"Sixty percent of the total box-office gross came from The Revenger Squad and Ang Panday."
She also confirmed that The Revenger Squad starring Vice Ganda, Daniel Padilla, and Pia Wurtzbach earned more than P500 million already.
