Director Cathy Garcia-Molina required Gerald Anderson not to wear underwear for his towel scene in the movie My Perfect You.
As seen in the trailer, Gerald's leading lady Pia Wurtzbach sneaked a peek at his sexy behind after he took a bath on the pristine river of the fictional Sunshine Camp.
Recalling Gerald’s awkwardness while shooting that scene, Direk Cathy said, “Actually, naa-ano na siya, ‘Direk...’ Sabi ko, ‘He! Walang nakikita, pwet lang!’ Hahaha!
“In-assure ko po naman siya na there's nothing more than just the pwet.”
Direk Cathy went on to say that she required Gerald to cover himself with a ripped towel that will show his buttocks.
She added, laughing, “Winarak ko po.”
Gerald, for his part, was surprised when he first saw the ripped towel as part of his wardrobe on the day that scene was shot.
“Nagulat nga ako, pagpasok ko sa kwarto ko, si Raquel yung wardrobe namin, sabi ko, ‘Ba’t butas ‘to?’
“Sabi niya, ‘A, kasi kailangan makita yung pwet mo.’ 6 a.m. to. Sabi ko, ‘Ha?’
“Kasi hindi ko alam, e. Hindi namin napag-usapan so medyo nagulat din ako.”
The ABS-CBN actor even recalled, "Ilang beses muntik mahulog ang tuwalya ko sa eksena na 'yan.
"Kabang-kaba ako kasi wala akong brief. Minsan pag nasa eksena ka, hindi mo na pinapansin 'yon. Buti na lang walang nangyari."
Gerald and Direk Cathy narrated this funny anecdote about the shooting of My Perfect You during the digital media conference for the movie, held at Omotenashi Japanese restaurant in Quezon City on March 15.
Shot in Zambales, My Perfect You tells the story of Burn, a graphic artist whose life turns upside down when his girlfriend breaks up with him on the day he proposed marriage.
Burn messes up his career, runs away from home, and finds solace in Sunshine Camp, owned and managed by the bubbly Abi, played by Pia.
It is through Abi’s persistent efforts that will eventually bring back Burn’s zest for life.
But without giving away the twist in the story, Direk Cathy and Gerald told reporters that My Perfect You is more than just another romantic-comedy film.
According to Direk Cathy, it has a dramatic element that will surprise moviegoers.
She even compared Gerald’s heavy drama scene to that of her self-confessed favorite movie actor John Lloyd Cruz.
“When I say na I see Lloydy, it’s when I feel the sincerity.
“Grabe nakita ko kay Ge. After ng take, sabi ko, ‘Cut!’ Ang dami kong luha. Sabi ko, pinaiyak mo ako.
“Back shot ni Pia yun, e, frontal ni Ge. Pagharap ni Pia, ‘Ako rin, Direk!’ Tagaktak yung luha, pati camera man ko.”
FROM "ZERO APPEAL" TO "GWAPO." Although she was admittedly strict with his acting requirements for Gerald, Direk Cathy said that shooting the film made her appreciate Gerald as a matinee idol.
My god talaga!”
Then Direk Cathy pointed out that getting to know Gerald’s strengths and weaknesses on the set was what earned him her admiration.
“So, sabi namin bakit kaya ang gwapo-gwapo ni Gerald? Siguro kasi nabuo na sa amin si Gerald.
“Kasi si Ge naman nakikita ko onscreen. Once in a while, hi-hello. So ang pagkatao niya, zero sa akin.
“So, parte talaga ng paghanga sa isang tao ay yung pagkatao. And because I’ve got to know Gerald, pogi na siya, inside and out.”
EGO-CRUSHING BUT FRUITFUL MENTORING. Flattered by Direk Cathy’s comments, Gerald also commended Direk Cathy for bringing out the best in him.
Even if it meant he felt “durog na durog” from the director’s feedback during the first few weeks of their shoot.
Gerald pointed out that Direk Cathy set an example to the cast and staff by staying on her toes even at 6 a.m., doing last-minute revisions on the script for the film’s crucial scenes.
“Nung sinabi sa akin yung project at si Direk Cathy ang makakasama ko, sinabi ko, as an actor gusto ko dalhin ito sa ibang level talaga.
“Ang challenge ko sa sarili ko every day, ‘Do more. Be more. Do your best.’
“E, wala, ibang klase talaga si Direk Cathy!
“Kasi, I take pride in myself. I work hard. I try to go over and beyond [what is expected of me].
“Pero basura talaga lahat yun nung nakita ko si Direk Cathy. Yung work ethic niya, yung passion niya, sobrang naging inspirasyon sa akin.
“I’m excited to do work more on my next project kasi alam ko ang dami kong natutunan sa kanya.”
