Director Eric Quizon praised Paolo Ballesteros, who top-bills their movie My 2 Mommies.

My 2 Mommies serves as the comeback of Eric in doing films.

In a VTR aired during the movie's blogger's conference last May 4, Eric was heard saying that he saw his dad Dolphy in Paolo while they were doing the film.

PEP.ph (Philippine Entertainment Portal) asked the director during the blogcon proper why he compared the late King of Comedy to Paolo.

"Paolo has been doing Eat Bulaga for so long, he does it everyday so iba yung training na nagagawa mo yung ganun, yung training mo ng pagiging host, ng pagpapasaya sa ibang tao. Kumbaga nahasa si Paolo sa ganun."

Eric then pointed out one instance where he saw this similarity between Dolphy and Paolo.

He narrated, "There was one scene kasi na merong punchline kasi na sinasabi doon sa eksena na yun. Whenever I do it again... okay na yung first take but I wanted a second take, another take, ano.

"Noong ginawa ni Paolo yung second take, iba yung ginawa niya, iba yung punchline. So okay. Tapos yung third, iba na naman!

"And somehow, merong nangyayari, nagagalaw yung lamp, hindi maayos yung ilaw. Pagka sinasabi yung ganun, siguro nakailang takes kami, naka-walo o siyam.

And I know that if there's one person who does that is my dad.

"Kasi, sa comedy kasi, pagka-nasabi mo na yung punchline, that's why it's called a punchline, yun yung pang-end mo, e.

"Kapag nasabi mo na yun, usually it doesn't work anymore the second time you said it. Maybe sa pelikula, it will, kasi first time makikita ng audience yun, e. Pero sa mga taong nakikita yun or on set, it will not be as funny anymore.

"And I think because Paolo is sanay sa live, so ganun yung ginawa nya, every punch, ibang punch. So sa nine punches na yun, kailangan mong gumawa ng nine punchlines, rarely do you see actors do that. Kaya ko nakita ang daddy kay Paolo in that scene."

PEP.ph then turned to Paolo, who was sitting beside Eric during the blogcon, and asked how he felt upon hearing those from his director.

Laughing, he said, "Akala ko, chika lang yun, e!

SOLENN'S 10-MINUTE LAUGH. Eric was reminded of another instance where Paolo and Dolphy can be compared to each other.

It was during a scene that Paolo shared with co-star Solenn Heussaff and child actor Marcus Cabais.

The 51-year-old actor-director recalled, "Actually, meron pang isa, there was one scene naman, kasi my dad is also known for that, e, yung mga co-stars niya, hindi magawa yung eksena kasi they end up laughing.

"Si Marcus nga, 'What's going on, what's happening?'

Back then, actresses who worked with Dolphy, such as Gloria Romero, Susan Roces, and Amalia Fuentes, would say that they were scared of doing scenes with the King of Comedy for the same reason.

"I remember kasi si Tita Gloria, Tita Susan, Tita Amalia, they would say that, whenever merong scene with Dolphy, natatakot sila kasi alam nilang magpapatawa ng magpapatawa yung daddy ko.

Doc Vera Perez is Azucena Vera Perez, the matriarch of Sampaguita Pictures.

Eric continued, "Pati sila Tita Daisy Romualdez, yan yung sinasabi. And he did that to Solenn so yun yun, 10 minutes talaga non-stop, tumatawa si Solenn!"

My 2 Mommies, which will open in cinemas on May 9, is produced by Regal Entertainment.

It also features Joem Bascon, Dianne Medina, and Maricel Soriano in a very special role.

DEALING WITH HIS SEXUALITY. For some time, Paolo has been portraying gay characters on the big screen: from Die Beautiful to My Amnesia Love.

Is it okay for him to be typecast in these kinds of roles?

Paolo pointed out, “Okay lang ako, kung saan masaya, kung wala naman natatapakan tao, just let them go with the flow.”

When asked if he has discussed about his sexuality with his eight-year-old daughter, the Eat Bulaga host said he will simply answer her questions when she asks about it. For now, Paolo said he does not hide secrets from his child.

“Hindi naman ako nagtatago sa kanya. I’m being myself in front of her. Kahit wala siya. What you see is what you get, e.
