Crazy Rich Asians author Kevin Kwan thanked Filipinos for making the movie adaptation of his novel a big hit in the Philippines.
On his Instagram post on August 27, Kwan posted photos of Pinoy actors who were part of the Hollywood movie.
The first photo was a scene showing Kris Aquino, who played the role of Princess Intan, having a conversation with lead actress Constance Wu who played the Asian-American character Rachel Chu.
The second photo showed U.S.-based Filipino comedian Nico Santos with fellow actress Awkwafina. Nico played Oliver T’sien, second cousin of the male lead character Nick Young
Meanwhile, Awkwafina was cast as Rachel’s college best friend Goh Peik Lin.
In his caption, the Singaporean-American novelist wrote, “Thank you Philippines for making #CrazyRichAsians the No.1 MOVIE IN THE COUNTRY, making it WB's BIGGEST OPENING WEEKEND OF 2018 and the BIGGEST OPENING WEEKEND for an English Rom-Com OF ALL TIME!!! Warner Bros. Pictures-Philippines announced these box-office records made by Crazy Rich Asians on its Facebook page.
According to the post, Crazy Rich Asians grossed PHP 82.7 million in five days.
