Gabby Concepcion says teachers are very close to his heart because of his mother Lourdes Arellano Concepcion.
"I have a strong connection with teachers because my mom was a teacher," said the GMA-7 actor during PLDT-Smart Foundation's recent press conference for its education advocacy and flagship program Gabay Guro.
To celebrate its 11th anniversary, Gabay Guro will bring together thousands of teachers from all over the Philippines for the Grand Gathering to be held this Sunday, September 23, at the Mall of Asia Arena.
As a grand treat to teachers, Gabay Guro will feature performances from artists-volunteers such as Gabby. It was also announced that Sharon Cuneta is part of the lineup this Sunday.
When PEP.ph (Philippine Entertainment Portal) asked if he is open to the possibility of performing a duet with his ex-wife, he responded: "Naman! Alam niyo na kung anong kanta, di ba? Yung standard namin. Meron kaming dalawa, tatlo na kinanta noon.
"Actually, matagal ko nang hinihintay 'yan. Hindi lang matuloy-tuloy."
Gabby said he is also willing to introduce his former leading lady before her production number "para iba."
Other performers include Regine Velasquez-Alcasid, Ogie Alcasid, Martin,Nievera, Jaya, Randy Santiago, and Christian Bautista, among others.
According to Chaye Cabal-Revilla, Gabay Guro chairman, they will be raffling off a house and lot, a car, pangkabuhayan packages, household appliances, cash, and gift certificates.
The Grand Gathering 2018 is exclusive to teachers, and admission is free.
Teachers may visit Gabay Guro's social media accounts for tickets to the event.
Did Gabby agree to be in the same event as Sharon for the sake of teachers?
"I can do it with anybody," he answered.
He is still optimistic that his movie with Sharon will still push through.
"Hinihintay ko na nga ang movie namin. Sana matuloy. Marami lang na tinatahi."
What's delaying their reunion project?
"There's a lot of factors, but timing is everything. I hope we can make things happen."
Does he still communicate with Sharon regarding their movie?
"No, we're not talking right now but I'm sure we will once we get things together."
Gabby then emphasized: "Ako, okay ako ever since. I never said no to the project.
"Kaya nagpunta ako sakabilang istasyon para makipag-usap. Talagang things just didn't work out. Maraming factors."
A few months ago, Sharon and Gabby were communicating with each other through Instagram but they eventually had a falling out.
In March 2018, Sharon posted on Instagram:
"I am so very tired. It may be hard to accept, but there may never be another SHARON-GABBY movie again."
Gabby quipped, "Maganda nga sa pelikula, love-hate...love-hate. Maganda na may conflict sa pelikula. Dahil kung wala nun, what's the fun?"
Is it still possible for the Sha-Gab movie to push through?
"Meron! May bukas pa," he said enthusiastically.
For now, Gabby is working on a film titled Man and Wife. He hopes it will be chosen as one of the official entries of the Metro Manila Film Festival this December.
"We're doing a movie with Jodi Sta. Maria and Denise Laurel, directed by Laurice Guillen.
"Hopefully, pumasok sa MMFF and I'm excited about that."
When will he do another teleserye for GMA-7?
"Meron akong nababalitaan na isa pero narinig ko, made-delay ng konti, which is okay because timing is everything."
