Sa kanyang tweet noong December 28, worthy of a Oscar nomination daw ang naturang pelikula.

“One of the most disturbing movies I watched in 2018 - great screenplay, director, actors. A Filipino movie that, if it was directed by Tarantino, would be shortlisted for the Oscar.”

Sinulat din niya ang The Pilgrimage, Hippie, The Valkyries, Aleph, Maktub, The Manual of the Warrior of Light, at Like the Flowing River.

Noong May 1, 2018 pumirma si Coelho para sa isang TV series based on the characters of his novels The Devil and Miss Prym, Brida, at The Witch of Portobello.

Na-nominate ang Kinatay for a Palme d’Or at napalunan nito ang Prix de la mise en scène or best director award for Brillante Mendoza.
