Pixar to showcase first CGI Filipino characters in short animated film Float

Disney’s Pixar will showcase the first Filipino computer CGI characters in the animated short film Float.

Filipino-American director Bobby Rubio made the announcement on his Twitter page on January 14, 2019.

Bobby wrote: “Pixar’s first all #CGI Filipino characters! So technically, the first #Pixnoys!”

He underscored the relevance of his creation which showcased two Filipino characters.

“I am proud to tell our stories. I know what it means to see our culture represented on screen!”

In a separate tweet, the Fil-Am director revealed what prompted him to create Pinoy leads for Float:

"I am so grateful to tell our stories. I know what it means to be underrepresented... I’m going to do my best to tell MORE!"


Born in San Diego, California, Bobby is now working and making a name for himself as a story artist in Pixar Animation Studios.

His other memorable works include 2005’s Tarzan II and 16 episodes of Avatar: The Last Airbender.

The filmmaker has also been involved in the comic book industry and came up with the comic series Alcatraz High and 4 Gun Conclusion.

The animated film Float is set to be launched in El Capitan Theater beginning this January, followed by a launch on YouTube in the coming weeks.
