Bea Alonzo had no prior experience on being a widow before And I Love You So. Nevertheless, the trailers of the newest Star Cinema movie show that the actress has the gift to effectively portray this character.
And I Love You So is Bea Alonzo's sixth full-length feature with Star Cinema. It is also her third film without popular screen partner John Lloyd Cruz—she had done Dreamboy opposite Piolo Pascual in 2005, and Pacquiao the Movie opposite Jericho Rosales the year after. The homegrown actress is now partnered with Sam Milby and Derek Ramsey, two of the most sought-after leading men of today.
Bea plays Lara, a pre-school teacher who becomes an early widow after Oliver (Derek), her husband of five months, suddenly passed away. She then falls into a long depression, until she meets Chris (Sam) who makes her happy. But this new love also poses new questions for Lara: should she move on with a newfound love and forget the promises she had made to the man she had loved and lost?
Bea said she studied her character well to be able to effectively act as a young widow. She even talked to a woman who suffered the same fate.
"Nakatulong po sa kin yung isang na-interview namin na young widow, tapos habang pinapanood ko siya na nagkukuwento, nakakaiyak siya kahit na medyo matagal na ‘yon," Bea explained.
The young actress prayed hard to internalize what a young widow should feel, wishing that she can successfully translate even a fraction of the emotion to the big screen.
"Tumatakbo na lang sa isip ko, Lord sana man lang kahit one-fourth nung pinagdaanan niya, e, ma-execute naman sa pelikula kasi nakaka-inspire," Bea said.
SYNOPSIS. Lara (Bea Alonzo) thought she found the love of her life in Oliver (Derek Ramsey), not knowing that he will pass away only five months after their marriage. Devastated, Lara ambles aimlessly day after day, until her business—the pre-school Oliver built for her—falls deep in debt.
One day, she meets Chris (Sam Milby) and slowly falls in love with him. But is she committing a sin against her deceased husband? Her best friend (played by Candy Pangilinan) does not think so and encourages the new relationship. Kaye (Coney Reyes) and Audrey (Nikki Gil), Lara's in-laws, however, strongly oppose the budding romance.
Should Lara pursue a new relationship, and forget the husband she had lost? Does she have the right to move on to a new love, or should she feel guilty?
And I Love You So will have its premiere tonight, August 11,
in Trinoma, Quezon City.
