Philpop 2013 was able to accomplish an amazing feat this year by putting together an impressive list of top rank artists to interpret the songs for the finals and the album under Universal Records.

Anchored on the theme "Your theme, your genre, your song," Philpop 2013 provided a very youthful vibe, despite the fact that some of the top 12 songs might even be considered old-school because of their genre, such as folk and ballad.

But because of the variety of the song genres, the brilliance of the songs and the singers all coming together for the album, Philpop 2013 gains even more ground as it goes into its sophomore year.

During the finals night held in Meralco theater on July 20, aside from the top 12 songs being performed, an a capella performance was done by the Ryan Cayabyab singers, Opera, The Company, 5AZ1, Baihana, beat box artist Mike Solomon, Ogie Alcasid and Charice Pempengco, featuring OPM songs like "Sirena" and "Chinito."

On July 17, a pre-finals judging was already held, gathering the most respected names in the music industry. The scores from this final round of judging made up 60% of the final score and were verified by external auditor SGB.

Smart Telecommunications and Meralco were major sponsors of Philpop 2013 and gave out special awards such as the Smart People's Choice Award worth P100,000 cash for the song which garnered the most text votes through TNT, Smart, and Sun. The winner of this special award was "Kung 'Di Man" by Johnoy Danao as interpreted by Ney Dimaculangan.

Meralco also awarded P100,000 cash for the song that shows pagmamalasakit for Filipinos and spurs them toward innovation, giving it to "Segundo" by Paul Armesin as interpreted by Yael Yuzon.

The evening was also highlighted by special numbers performed by Sandwich's lead guy Raimund Marasigan, who wore a Philippine flag jacket as he sang "Tayo'y Mga Pinoy."

After all these, the top 5 were announced as well as the awarding of the top 3. The 2nd runner up won P250,000 cash and was given to "Pansamantagal" by Jungee Marcelo, as interpreted by Sittie and Julianne Tarroja.

The 1st runner up was given P500,000 cash and was awarded to "Kung 'Di Man" by Johnoy Danao, as interpreted by Ney Dimaculangan.

The Grand prize winner was given P1 million cash. This went to the songwriting duo Thyro Alfaro and Yumi Lacsamana, who also made it to the finals last year. Their song titled "Dati" was interpreted by Sam Concepcion, Tippy dos Santos and Quest.

The two other top 5 finalists were Lara Maigue's "Sa'yo Na Lang Ako" and Joey Ayala's "Papel."

At the end of the finals night, Sam Concepcion, Tippy dos Santos and Quest sang the winning song again with all the finalists and singers coming out from backstage. On the second verse, they let the composers Thyro and Yumi take the microphone as confetti rained down from above.

Quest shares his thoughts on the win, "I am just so blessed to be part of it. They were really great. Even without me, I know they could have still done it."

Composer Yumi was almost breathless as she said, "grabe, hindi ako makapagsalita. Overwhelming lang talaga. Syempre hindi maiiwasan na hangarin yung panalo. Sobrang saya ko nung nasama kami sa top 5. Nung tinawag yung top3, medyo bumibitaw nako e. I mean, even without the win, happy na kami [ni Thyro], because they [Sam, Tippy and Quest] presented it exactly the way we wanted it. Tapos nung in-announce na kami yung winner...mind-blowing!"

The performers explain their choice of wardrobe bling for the evening's performance, as Tippy dos Santos states, "It's a Quest apparel, and thanks to our stylist, Rain Dagala."

Tippy also reacts to them having performed the winning song, "We talked about it ngayon and we are, parang, just so happy that we were able to give justice to the napakaganda na from the start. Pero ang sarap lang na na-perform namin ng maganda at nagustuhan siya ng mga composers. So congratulations to Thyro and Yumi. This is all them...This is all them. Everything."

Sam Concepcion adds, "We are...super happy and super glad that things fell into place in our...and that we benefited from it. And we're just so happy and we're really glad that this song won. It's really a nice song and it's really an honor and a privilege for us to have been chosen to interpret this song. Congratulations to Thyro and Yumi for an excellent song."
