“Mabagal” wins Best Song at Himig Handog 2019.

“Mabagal”, which was composed by Dan Tañedo and interpreted by Daniel Padilla and Moira dela Torre, emerged as this year’s grand winner.

The song about slow dancing with a romantic partner took home all five special awards, namely MOR Phils Choice Award, MYX Choice for Best Music Video, One Music PH Choice for Favorite Interpreter, Star Music’s Choice, and Listener’s Choice for Most Streamed Track.

The song received a total of P250,000 for bagging the special awards, in addition to the grand prize of P1 million and a trophy.

“Simula Ng Dulo,” composed by real-life couple Davey Langit and Therese Marie Villarante and interpreted by Davey, won Second Best Song, and received P500,000.

“Please Lang," which was composed by Angelo “Aikee” Aplacador and sung by Alex Gonzaga, received the Third Best Song award, plus a P200,000 cash prize.

The Fourth Best Song award and P150,000 cash prize were given to “Nung Tayo Pa,” which was co-written by Rex Torremoro and Elmar Jann Bolaño, and interpreted by Janella Salvador.

"Panandalian” won the Fifth Best Song award and P100,000 cash for composers Jerome Arcangel and Cee Jay del Rosario, and singer TJ Monterde.

All the top 12 Himig Handog finalists—picked from nearly 4,000 submissions—performed today, October 13, at the ASAP Natin ‘To stage.

Other competing entries were “Alaala,” composed and interpreted by Alekzandra Nicolle Quitalig; “Ikaw At Linggo,” composed and interpreted by Eamarie Gilayo; “Ingat,” composed by Ferdinand Aragon and interpreted by I Belong To The Zoo; “Isa Pang Ikaw,” composed by Joseph Ponce and performed by Justin Vasquez; “Paano Ba,” composed by Charms Jacinto and interpreted by Vanya Castor; “Sasabihin Ko,” composed by LJ Manzano and Joan Da, who also interpreted the song; and “Sa 'Yong Mundo,” composed by Noah Zuniga and interpreted by Janine Berdin.

National Artist for Music Ryan Cayabyab was the chairman of the board of judges for the 10th edition of the annual Filipino songwriting competition.
