Moira Dela Torre has been chosen by Disney Philippines to sing Mulan's iconic theme song "Reflection" for local release.
Disney described Moira as "a warrior in her own right and a true voice of her generation."
Deemed as the most streamed Filipina artist, Moira collaborated with Disney Philippines for a localized version of the film’s popular song, “Reflection.”
The Mulan live-action film starring Chinese-American actress-singer-model Liu Yifei is a remake of the hit 1998 animation movie. It revolves around a young woman who disguises herself as a man to save her ailing father from serving in the Imperial Army of China.
When the Emperor of China issues a decree that one man per family must serve in the Imperial Army to defend the country from Northern invaders, Hua Mulan, the eldest daughter of an honored warrior, steps in to take the place of her ailing father. She risks everything out of love for her family and her country to become one of the greatest warriors China has ever known.
"Binigyan ako ng platform na ganito kalaki, entabladong ganito kalaki para malaman niyo na walang impossible. That just because your past is broken doesn't mean your future has to be," said the Filipina singer about this great honor.
Disney will release Moira's version of "Reflection" on March 20, 2020.
The song was originally performed by Lea Salonga in the 1998 animated movie Mulan. Its studio version was recorded by Christina Aguilera in that same year.
Lea also served as the singing voice of Mulan in Mulan 2, which was released in 2005.
A netizen created a photo that superimposed the face of Moira onto the body of Mulan star Liu Yifei. The Twitter user used the hashtag #MoilanPH as the caption for her creation.
