Kanye West, Wiz Khalifa join same music fest in Manila after Twitter war

Kanye West (in photo) and Wiz Khalifa are some of the artists who will perform at the Paradise IMF to be held this Saturday in Paranaque City.

After exchanging heated words on Twitter, Kanye West and Wiz Khalifa will both be joining the same music fest in the Philippines.

Wiz will be performing the set preceding Kanye at the Paradise International Music Festival (IMF) to be held this Saturday, April 9, at the Aseana City Open Grounds in Pasay City.

Joshua Ylaya, one of the concert producers, says the two artists were informed beforehand regarding this setup.

4th Impact, the Pinay girl group that became popular on The X Factor UK, will also perform that night along with DJ Afrojack, pop sensation Austin Mahone, the drum and bass band Rudimental DJ and the duo The Airplane Boys. Musicfest goers can look forward to sets from DJ Jessica Milner, DJ Nina, and Joyce Pring. Also included in the lineup are Filipina singer Clara Benin as well as OPM bands Hale, Itchyworms and Up Dharma Down.

This marks the first time that Kanye West will be performing in the Philippines. The hip hop recording artist, songwriter, and record producer has 21 Grammy Awards under his belt and has sold over 21 million albums and 100 million digital downloads worldwide.

Rapper Wiz Khalifa, on the other hand, is best known for his hit "Young and Wild and Free."

Yeezus, as Kanye West is often called, engaged in a Twitter feud with Wiz Khalifa last January when he misunderstood a tweet from the latter.

Kanye announced via Twitter that he changed the title of his album from Swish to Waves.

In response, Wiz pointed out that the term "wavy" is from rapper Max B, who popularized the slang.

"Max B is the wavy one," tweeted Wiz. "He created the wave. There is no wave without him."

Wiz also tweeted, “Hit this kk and become yourself.”

The "kk" that Khalifa was referring to was Khalifa Kush, his strain of marijuana. However, Kanye thought that Wiz was disrespecting his wife, reality star Kim Kardashian.

As a result, Kanye posted a series of harsh (and now-deleted) tweets.

The controversial album is now called The Life of Pablo. Last February, the two artists cleared the air, with Kanye tweeting: “Me and Wiz spoke yesterday. Great convo. All positive.”

Boardworks Media Entertainment co-owner Joshua Ylaya recalled, “It’s funny. Kanye and Wiz Khalifa had a Twitter war. Pinagpaalam po namin.

“We asked them if it’s gonna be cool. It’s the first time that they will be performing together.

“I doubt if they will be sharing the stage but with Wiz opening for Kanye, that sure is going to be surreal.”

Since this is the first time that Paradise IMF is being mounted in the Philippines, what criteria did they use in choosing the artists?

“We started with Kanye,” disclosed Josh during the April 7 press conference for Paradise IMF held at the City of Dreams.

“We planned it for over a year and for the headliner, we should bring someone who hasn’t been here and a music icon whom we believe Kanye is.

“It should be a name that when it comes out, people will be thinking it’s too good to be true.”

As a result, the lineup includes a wide variety of music genres: from rock to pop music to EDM music.

Ylaya compares Kanye’s Manila performance to the hip hop artist’s headlining set during the 2015 Glastonbury festival in the United Kingdom.

The rapper-slash-fashion designer is so hands on that he even designed the posters being used for Paradise IMF.

“Kanye is Kanye. He’s an artist. He’s very hands on with everything. If you’ve seen our collaterals, the posters, all those were designed by him,” revealed the producer.

If you’ve seen the area…even his team is very hands on when it comes to staging, the design, the layout. They’ve been here for the past two weeks.”
