Julie Anne San Jose says her album Chasing The Light mirrors her outlook in life and love.

Julie Anne San Jose’s newest album Chasing The Light is a reflection of her journey, not only in finding true love but making her career goals come true.

Produced under GMA Records, it’s a nine-track album with two original compositions: "Naririnig Mo Ba" and "Not A Game," written by the Kapuso singer herself.

The 22-year-old performer told PEP.ph (Philippine Entertainment Portal): “Iba-iba yung message bawat kanta. Yung 'Chasing The Light' may mga times kasi sa buhay natin we feel down and discouraged.

"Hindi maganda kung palagi kang nasa dilim. Kapag nasa dilim ka, kailangan hanapin mo palagi yung liwanag.”

Julie Anne admitted that there were times when she felt stuck in the proverbial blackhole.

“Siguro there were moments na na-feel ko yung ganun. Kasi marami akong na-experience na mga problems sa sarili ko, sa paligid ko—basta lahat.

“So, kumbaga isa rin yun sa mga dahilan kung bakit ako nagpapatuloy. Kung bakit gusto palagi maging strong din para sa sarili ko, para sa family ko, para sa mga taong mahal ko, especially sa mga supporters ko. Kasi kung wala sila, wala rin ako rito.”

“Yung mga tao who bring you down. Wala ka naman magawa kasi hindi mo naman sila mapi-please. Ginagawa mo lang naman yung trabaho mo.

"I take it as a challenge. Na-thrill din ako to do better. I always believe na I can do better."

Asked about the lowest point in her life, Julie Anne admitted that there were times when she got really affected by her bashers.

“Yung mga tao who bring you down. Wala ka naman magawa kasi hindi mo naman sila mapi-please. Ginagawa mo lang naman yung trabaho mo.

“I take it as a challenge. Na-thrill din ako to do better. I always believe na I can do better.”

The only other thing that put her down was the time when her father was totally against her joining show business.

In 2005, she was only 12 or 13 years old when she joined Popstar Kids, a talent contest on QTV-11.

“Sinabi niya before sa akin na, ‘Huwag ka na tumuloy diyan kasi masisira lang yung school mo. Tapos mawalan ka ng time with family.’

“Siyempre nagsisimula pa lang, mas marami pa yung ginagastos mo kaysa sa kinikita mo.

“Tapos sinabi ko sa kanya na sumali ako, tapos nagustuhan ko na siya. And I really love what I’m doing kasi I’m passionate about music, I’m passionate about singing.”

The songs included in her album are: 1) Don't Make Me Wait 2) Naririnig Mo Ba 3) Chasing the Light 4) Not A Game 5) Never Alone 6) Take Me To Nirvana 7) Left Over 8) All About You 9) Just Stay and a bonus track: Naririnig Mo Ba (Acoustic Version)

Here, PEP lists the five things that we learned about Julie’s Chasing The Light album:

1. "Naririnig Mo Ba" is inspired by her Viber chat with close friends.

"Nagra-rant sila. Sinasabi nila yung experiences nila, kung anong napi-feel nila [dun sa Viber group namin].

"Tapos I came up with this song. It’s about a person na nasaktan siya tapos naging bitter na siya. Ayaw na niyang makipagrelasyon.

"Tapos may dumating bigla. Niri-remind niya yung tao na yun na, 'Paki-ingatan naman ako. Sana maging ok tayo.'”

2. She dedicates "Naririnig Mo Ba" to Benjamin Alves.

So, abangan ninyo.

"Nung sinulat ko yung song, I've known him already, pero hindi pa kami close."

Incidentally, the two are also being romantically linked to each other.

Part of the lyrics go: Pwede bang ikaw na lang ang papawi sa mga luha / Marahil nga ikaw ang tibok ng puso / Naririnig mo ba?

3. "Not A Game" mirrors Julie Anne’s beliefs on love.

Julie Anne said that her song "Not A Game" is all about falling for the right person.

"Sa relationship kasi, it's really important that you commit to the person. And you have to give yourself wholeheartedly to that person.

"If you really trust someone, and alam mo sa sarili mo na magtatagal kayo, no more games.

"Bakit ka pa maghahanap ng iba kung mahal mo talaga yung isang tao?"

4. Chasing The Light combines OPM and upbeat music that millennials go for.

"Actually, ayaw ko po mahiwalay siya sa previous album. Yung previous album ko po was Forever (Extended Play), which I recorded sa New York.

"Gusto ko ipagpatuloy yung ganung klaseng genre, pero at the same time tatak Pinoy pa rin."

5. She also dedicates her nine-track album to Adiks.

In her album, Julie Anne wrote a personal message for her solid supporters whom she fondly calls Adiks.

“Thank you for your tenacity... I’m grateful that you’ve joined this journey with me.

"This is the path that I chose, the path that I’ve dreamed of. There have been low points but I can assure you I won’t quit.”
