Members of BoybandPH explain why it is sometimes necessary to lip-sync in some of their performances.

The five members of BoybandPH are enjoying their journey while adjusting to their new status as performers, five months after winning ABS-CBN's reality-based boyband search.

BoybandPH is an all-male group composed of Russell Reyes, Niel Murillo, Ford Valencia, Tristan Ramirez, and Joao Constancia. They were the winners of the reality-based boyband search Pinoy Boyband Superstar held during the latter part of 2016.

Apart from taking part in mall shows and events all over the country, the group often performs on the Sunday variety show ASAP.

PEP.ph (Philippine Entertainment Portal) caught up with the group during the launch of mobile-phone brand Vivo V5s at SM Annex, Quezon City last May 19.

Backstage, PEP.ph had the chance to have an exclusive interview with the group members.

WHY LIP-SYNC?
BoybandPH was the main act and some of the songs they performed were noticeably done while lip-syncing.

We asked members of BoybandPH: in this age when audiences are very critical of singers and their performances, how would they justify doing lip-sync?

Niel reasoned out that their schedule can become so crazy that their voices get abused and they become hoarse.

“Minsan din kasi for example may trabaho kami, may show kami, tapos parang paos kami, wala nang boses,” he explained.

In instances when their singing voices are not in top shape, lip-syncing becomes their alternative.

“The show must go on kasi, so siyempre I think it’s good to have it sometimes,” justified Russell, referring to lip-syncing.

Joao added, “At the same time to the mall shows we’ve been to, there were couple of times we were singing and it’s just the crowd’s energy was too loud that they couldn’t hear us [singing].

“So now with these extra vocals at the background, it’s just to help it bring up more the energy and for them to hear us more.”

For his part, Tristan said that they hope to become better performers as they continue with their budding career. He assured fans that they will strive harder to give more live performances.
