Much has been said
about Karylle's breakup with matinee idol Dingdong Dantes. Like it or not, her
newfound independence—albeit the pain and loneliness it brought—made Karylle
the poster girl of singledom.
An artist, first and
foremost, Karylle instinctively found solace through music and the written
word.
"Love can be expressed
in a look, in a touch, through actions, but I feel like it's best to let love
across through music," Karylle told PEP (Philippine Entertainment Portal) in an
interview last February.
LETTING
GO. In
her recent Valentine's concert held at the Lobby Lounge of the Edsa Shangri-La
Hotel in Mandaluyong City, Karylle consciously avoided singing songs dealing
with heartbreak.
But not this time.
With the release of her
latest album, Time for Letting Go,
Karylle stares heartbreak in the eye while at the same time completing the entire healing process. Though the selection favors the aftermath of failed
romance, the songs, curiously, bear a tinge of hope and courage.
Time
for Letting Go is not a concept album but Karylle
interestingly made it appear like one by identifying the stages of the
experience.
"Denial is when you
keep saying ‘I'm okay even when you're not,'" said Karylle, referring about the
first stage. One of her original compositions is "Hulog Ng Langit." Karylle
said: "I remained myself in a place that was comfortable and familiar. I
distracted myself with beautiful memories to take the place of my reality."
Other tracks that tackle the initial feeling are "You've Made Me Stronger," "Almost Over You," and
the record's first single, "I'll Never Get Over You, Getting Over Me."
The journey towards recovery
continues with the songs "The Best of Me," Diana Ross's "Meet Me in the Morning,"
Stephen Bishop's "Something New In My Life," and Keno's classic OPM hit "Leaving
Yesterday Behind."
Interestingly, Karylle's
original composition penned with ex-flame Dingdong Dantes found its way to the
album. The song "Wala Na Bang Lahat" is described as a soulful piano-driven piece
complementing another Karylle original, "Minamahal Kita."
Zsa Zsa Padilla also collaborated with her daughter for a duet of Natalie Cole's "I Live For Your Love."
Join Karylle as she lets love come across through her music. Karylle's 11-track album, Time For Letting Go, released under PolyEast Records chronicles the
singer's journey to pain and acceptance. Time
For Letting is now available in all record bars nationwide courtesy of PolyEast Records.
