Rivermaya releases first single after Rico Blanco's departure

Life goes on for the 14-year-old iconic OPM band as Rivermaya releases it first single after Rico Blanco’s (in photo) controversial adios.

Living up to its Lazarus-like reputation, Rivermaya’s co-manager, Lizza Nakpil, revealed to PEP (Philippine Entertainment Portal) via e-mail that the band released its new single earlier today, June 25, at NU 107 during its 6 a.m. to 9 a.m. time slot.

The song entitled "Sayang" was described by Lizza as "an open letter to the fans" and was written and recorded in the last few weeks. However, she failed to mention who wrote the song as well as the person who assumed vocal duties for the said single.

Rivermaya’s management team officially issued a statement last Wednesday confirming singer-songwriter Rico Blanco’s departure after 14 years of creating good music, which started since the early ‘90s.

In the letter, Lizza stated that everyone inside their camp did everything to persuade Rico to stay and re-consider his plans to maintain Rivermaya’s momentum both in the local and international music scene, particularly in Southeast Asia where the band is currently enjoying a cult following.

Despite the setback, the band promised to go on by saying that the band is not ready to turn its back on the fans and supporters both inside and outside the country.
